This week APAA’s opioid recovery response team made a huge impact in our community! We visited several homeless encampments and handed out 23 Narcan kits. Narcan can help save lives of those overdosing on opioids, and this is a major step in the battle against the opioid crisis.

It's so important to recognize that addiction can affect anyone, and everyone deserves access to the resources they need to help with their recovery journey. We are proud to be a part of the movement to provide support and care for those struggling with substance use addiction and mental illness.

We are also grateful to all the amazing people who are advocating for recovery support and mental health awareness. Together, we can make a difference and advance health, wellness, and recovery in our communities.

APAA joined Dallas County Commissioners Court with a Resolution for and Dr. Gloria Morrow, Licensed Clinical Psychologist/ DEI Consultant, for NTBHA’s DEI Project. Dr. Morrow partnered with NTBHA to establish the North Texas Behavioral Health Authority Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Advisory Council (NTBHA DEI Council). The purpose of the NTBHA DEI Council is to foster ideas that create and sustain an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Remembering the Legendary Funk and Jazz Musician & APAA Peer, Bernard “Nard” Wright on his birthday.

The Queens, NY native was the musical director and Godson of music legend Roberta Flack.

He was a music prodigy who was touring with major musicians by the age of 13 and Lenny White at 17.

Wright was best known for his popular 1985 hit song, “Who Do You Love” from his third album Mr. Wright. It peaked at No. 6 on Billboard’s R&B singles chart and was heavily sampled by Hip-Hop and R&B artists L.L. Cool J, Dr. Dre, Big Pun, The Luniz, Tichina Arnold, and Ty Dolla Sign. Skee-lo and Snoop Dog sampled “Spinnin,” another song by Wright.
