A post of real life in the home of an FNTP.
A decade ago, I decided to pursue an education in nutrition, hugely part to me getting sick and realizing food was medicine. I became a board certified FNTP (Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner) and have done continuing education over the last decade, receiving additional credentials to specialize in certain diets.
If there is one piece of advice I could give, it’s to be intentional with what you put on your plate. It will heal you or it will make you sick. I work in functional nutrition, so looking at nutrition as medicine is one of the biggest components to a healthy life. Food is medicine. Medicine is sickcare.
As a mom and wife, one of my biggest responsibilities is to take care of me, so I can show up for my family. I do it with nutrition, exercise and being as healthy as possible. But, I also do it for them. I cannot show up and give my best if I’m not putting my oxygen mask on first.
Last night I worked to prep food that is not only good, but most importantly, nourishing to our bodies. Yes, those few hours in the day are a lot of work, but it’s worth it. For the ease it brings throughout the week and knowing we’re eating nutritious foods. It saves money, it’s healthy and it’s a way of taking care of my family. Yes, I spend time reading nutrition labels, choosing what foods to bring home that will serve us best nutritionally. Yes, I do the legwork in researching what will be the healthiest choices we can make for our overrall health. As a wife and mom, I’m the gatekeeper of our home, and that includes our physical health, as well.
And yes, you can. The biggest excuse people use is it’s expensive and inconvenient. So are doctor bills. It’s our God given responsibility to be good stewards of our health. 🫶🏼
