Happy Juneteenth!! A day DEFINITELY worth celebrating as it was a step in the right direction.

Slavery was HORRIBLE. There are people today who want to wipe or water down that history but we must never forget!

I took some of these pictures at the (National Museum of African American History & Culture) last week and had a lot to take in. It was my second time and I highly recommend it to everyone! We must preserve this history to learn from it and become better.

The end of slavery was not the end of racial injustice in this country. Jim Crow then Segregation followed and today we still live with remnants of that era. The work is not done. Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream is not yet fully realized. America’s story is still being written.

Let us ALL therefore continue to do the work! We must stand up for Justice and Equity here and behind. Our lives are all intertwined. What will history say about us. What story will be told to your grandchildren? What did you do to help contribute to making things better?

Here are some things you can do: vote, engage your representatives, be a good neighbor, if you have racist tendencies, FIX IT, call our racist systems, fix them in your institutions, organize yourselves for good on your community, advocate for those less fortunate than you are. The list could go on…

Looking back at my 40th journey around the sun with gratitude. Celebrating with my family is the best gift I could ask God for. Thank you so much!!!

I wouldn’t be here without my parents literally and I’m so thanks for a supportive husband. The blessings are Pleeeeenty!!!

I felt low after morning clinic. I don’t know why I was down but didn’t want to take that into the afternoon so I did a little walk and plant therapy. Hold up! Let’s clarify that one 🤣. By plant therapy I mean I was present observing beautiful nature around me. I greeted some trees and observed plants I hadn’t noticed around the clinic and took it all in while getting some steps in. I feel better. SIGNIFICANTLY better. It was all natural and didn’t need a pill.

I’ll take my flowers now please… 😁 🌸

Yesterday I was talking with Ms Tracy (pretty much my aunt from another life). We were reflecting on the life of her mom Ms Billie who passed away last month.

Ms. Billie told people they better give her flowers while she’s alive so she can enjoy them now! We laughed cause people really listened to her and made sure she got them before she died! 😅 Love her! Now she didn’t say they couldn’t give her any at her funeral though cause the has THE MOST flowers and plants I’ve EVER seen at any funeral.

Ok where am I going with this. Right! Give people their flowers now.

Feeling deeply honored and immensely proud to be awarded the prestigious title of Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians today. This recognition not only reflects my commitment to family medicine but also marks a significant milestone in my professional journey. Grateful for this esteemed honor and excited to continue advancing in the field.

Celebrating with me were my husband and she woman who told me point blank I was a family doctor years ago and she was right; Dr. Dharma. Thank you Emma for your unwavering support and for always encouraging me AND embarrassing me by filming the WHOLE the whole oath while no one else was getting filmed 🤦🏾‍♀️🤣

Since I’ve turned this into an Oscar speech, let me add to my thank you list my mom and dad and God almighty where it all began. 😁

As I doctor, I empathize with my patients when they get sad about having to start taking medications chronically. I’ve always been sensitive to that.

After several weeks of dealing with my puzzling eye symptoms, we’re finally getting closer to some answers. Part of that path involves starting medications. My heart sunk when the rheumatologist made that initial call. I felt like this was confirming that something serious could be going on.

But another way to look at it is through the lens of hope. There is something that might help me and that’s a good thing. So here I am with my new pills and pill container to help keep me on track. It’s gonna be ok.

And just like that… I’m 40!!!

Where did the time go? Feeling so grateful to make it one more day. Praying for many many more. In this next chapter may my life bless more people than I can ever meet in my lifetime. May my life bring glory to God my maker.

Thank you to everyone I have crossed paths with, I am better from the laughter, the conversations, the lessons. I am soooo thankful for my village; my family is so strong. I am crying just thinking about it. I am thankful last but certainly not least for my husband. Thank you for daily agreeing to grow with me. I love you, I love you, I love you.

I have so much more to list, but I’ll keep the rest to meditate on all day. Whew! I am one lucky gal!
