This patient of ours had a full thickness, invasive skin cancer hiding on her neck called a squamous cell skin cancer, the second most common type of skin cancer. Dr. Ashwin Agarwal, our board certified Mohs Surgeon and Dermatologist, performed Mohs Micrographic Surgery, a highly specialized skin cancer surgery that confirms 100% clear margins prior to repair and maximally conserves surrounding skin for optimal cosmetic outcome. He performed the reconstruction and well with a curvilinear closure to hide the scar in her neck lines (seen here post-op). The scar is now imperceptible several weeks out and our patient is very happy! :)

Medical Dermatology Case Day! This sweet patient was referred to our dermatologist Dr. Agarwal for his expertise in complex medical dermatology by her primary doctor for unknown yellow lesions on her eyelids with normal bloodwork and cholesterol.
➡ Dr. Agarwal solved the case and caught her undiagnosed multiple myeloma (blood cancer) after recognizing these eyelid findings as part of a rare immune system protein disease in the skin from underlying blood cancer. He had the patient seen urgently by an oncologist, where bloodwork confirmed the blood cancer and she is now undergoing cancer treatment.
➡ He confirmed the diagnosis by performing an eyelid biopsy showing amyloidosis (immune proteins in the skin!). Dr. Agarwal has previously written about and published about skin amyloidosis in the prestigious American Journal of Medicine. Other protein deposit diseases that can look similar is necrobiotic xanthogranuloma, another thought in this case. Not all eyelid yellow lesions are cholesterol!
