There are some people who feel insecure and emotionally unstable in their own everyday lives, so they will outwardly project those feelings onto others to avoid healing their own past traumas or simply dealing with their own shortcomings.

When you’re able to recognize this for what it is, you’ll understand it is a “them problem.”

If you have a lot of healing to do from your own past traumas, you may want to simply disengage from this type of person. When you have built up your mental and emotional strength and capacity a bit more you won’t have to avoid them at all as you’ll find they have no power or control over you.

You can then celebrate all the growth and accomplishments you’ve made along your journey of self-love, self-discovery, and self-healing. And that’s what it’s all about.

Congratulations!!! 💜💜💜

I used to spend so much of my time trying to change who I am to make others happy!

For example, during my marriage I always felt it made more sense for us to just hire a regular cleaning service while my then husband felt I was just being lazy for not WANTING to do it myself. Not to make "excuses," but I was a mother of 4 who also worked full-time as a school principal in an urban school district with ADHD. Cleaning was not my top priority then nor will it ever be. But to make him happy, I tried to comply and it was the worst decision I'd ever made.

Now, in my ex's defense, he had no qualms with cleaning as well. It was an easy task for him to do. The problems came in when he expected me to be just like him... trying to change who and how I am, not accepting our differences...not accepting me for my differences. What took him 1 hour to clean turned into 4 for me with it looking worse than before I started. Obviously, not my forte.

Now, I love a clean house just as much (if not more) than the next person, but I have accepted my limitations, so to speak, and no longer feel bad about them. Besides, hiring out meant I would have had more time and energy to do more important things, like spending quality time with the family, self-care, starting a business, etc...

My goal now is to do what makes me happy and I make decisions that are right for me. And you should too, ADHD or not. We're all different, with unique strengths, weaknesses, needs. If someone can't accept who you are... as you are, they can very politely kick rocks. IJS...🤷🏽‍♀️

I know that many of us with ADHD are oftentimes taught and expected to just conform... to work harder to fit in.

But I must admit, not only do I accept the fact that I have ADHD, I love it!

Being different is a gift. The numerous talents we have been blessed with is a gift.

Yes, it may be necessary to adapt and be flexible in this neurotypical world we're living in, but we don't have to completely change who we are to be successful and happy in it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
