Service has always been at the heart of Alexandra Penner’s story. Growing up, she watched her father serve first in the military and later as a police officer—a constant reminder of what it means to give selflessly to others.

As Alexandra leaned into her passions for science, medicine, and service, she discovered her calling: to become a physician in the U.S. Army. Over time, that calling has only grown stronger as she’s witnessed the sacrifices made by service members and their families.

Today, as a first-generation college graduate and M.D. student at UT Southwestern Medical Center (Class of 2028), Alexandra feels honored to pursue a career where she can provide soldiers and their families with the care they deserve.

At UTSW, we’re proud to support future physicians like Alexandra who are combining compassion, dedication, and purpose to shape the future of health care.
