Happy World Breastfeeding week! August 1 - 7

If you didn’t know August is National Breastfeeding Month where we share information all month surrounding the benefits of breastfeeding. According to WHO in the last 12 years the number of infants that’s were exclusively breastfed (only received breastmilk) increased by more than 10%, which means 48% of infants worldwide has benefited from breastfeeding.

WHO states, “When breastfeeding is protected and supported, women are more than twice as likely to breastfeed their infants. This is a shared responsibility. Families, communities, healthcare workers, policymakers, and other decision-makers all play a central role”

If you’re currently pregnant NOW is the time to learn about breastfeeding, don’t want until baby is here. There are plenty of resources and people willing to help. Search your local area for lactation professionals that provide prenantal breastfeeding classes so you can get the knowledge you need!

Grace is so needed during the first month of having a new baby.

Just think about it, especially for first time parents, you’re getting to know the purest form of a human. One that’s not conditioned to this world. They are working off of pure unfiltered instincts and operate closely to other baby mammals.

Your baby just came from an environment where every thing was consistent. Their food, their oxygen, their warmth, their closeness to you, literally everything. And then they come to this new world and have to figure it out with your help. Not only that, they have to get used to breastfeeding.

That first month comes with challenges as your baby and you learn a new skill. This is where GRACE is important!! Sometimes it takes deep breathing to calm your frustration, to calm your baby, to calm your nerves. Know that the challenge isn’t bigger than you and your baby is resilient and capable of pushing through the challenges if you’re willing to work with them. Know that there are resources and affordable help if needed. Know that you’re not alone through this and will make it past that first month challenging month. You got this Mama! ❤️

The closer you get to the ground, the closer you are to birthing! It’s instinctual to get on all 4s as your baby starts to descend into the birth canal.

Shortly after this I got up and told my midwife it feels like I have to push, it’s a lot of pressure and I asked if she could check me. She checked and indeed I was 10cm, one hour before I was only 5cm.

Birth is so unpredictable which is why it’s important to listen to your body because it will instinctually react to where you are in labor. This is was it’s fairly easy for a midwife to know where you are within labor just by your actions alone and it’s because they learn about physiological birthing.

So as you labor, hone in and listen to what your body needs. Move how it needs you to move, get low, lift a leg, squat, sway your hips, do the hoola hoop, what ever it is your body needs, DO IT!

To all the Mamas! I hope you all have a day filled with love and support.

Intimacy during labor. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You know the tv shows and probably even some stories you’ve heard would have you thinking you need to be angry at your partner. When in reality, being intimate with your partner will help you progress in labor so much!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Why? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Well bring intimate sets off oxytocin like crazy! Oxytocin is the love hormone! It’s the hormone that’s released when you or**sm too! Oxytocin is also responsible for your contractions!! The more you have strong consistent contractions, the quicker you are to meeting your baby! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So when I see a having a little difficulty processing labor, I send her comfort zone in to love on her. I tell her partner to go kiss her, rub her back, hug her, spoon with her, or just simply be by her side...it raises that oxytocin for some strong contractions while giving her peace and calmness. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So love on each other ❤️

Did you lean on your partner during labor for some intimacy?

Contractions…

Contractions are often described as a cramping or tightening sensation that starts in the back and moves around to the front in a wave-like manner. Others say the contraction feels like pressure in the back.

Contractions move like a wave, it gradually rises to the peak, then gradually falls. As long as you ride the wave, surrender to the wave, and breathe through the wave, you’ll ride it through. The second you fight your body and run from the pressure, you’ll drown in the wave and it’ll consume you.

Don’t let it consume you, you are in control, just surrender and ride the wave…

This is a time when affirmations are important to help your mind get over the matter and it’s very possible but you have to believe in your ability to hold the power and control while surrendering. ❤️
