Cataract is one of the leading causes of blindness in the United States. During Cataract Awareness Month in June, the American Academy of Ophthalmology reminds the public that early detection and treatment of cataracts is critical to preserving sight.

Here's what you can do with your solar eclipse glasses.
It will be decades before you'll need them again in the U.S. and most glasses shouldn't be used if they're more than three years old.
Protect your eyes during the solar eclipse. Exposing your eyes without proper protection can cause solar retinopathy.

Welcome Dr. Chaaban!
Dr. Chaaban was born and raised in North Dallas. She obtained her doctorate degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry. Dr. Chaaban is passionate about providing care to underserved communities. She founded the first multicultural association at her optometry school through which they were able to provide refugees with free eye exams and glasses. Her specialties include myopia management, fitting specialty contact lenses, dry eye management, glaucoma management, and diabetic eye exams.
"Glaucoma causes vision loss by damaging the optic nerve in the back of your eye. One of the first signs of glaucoma is loss of peripheral (side) vision. Eye exams can catch glaucoma early, before it affects your vision" (National Eye Institute, 2022)

January is Glaucoma Awareness Month. Did you know that Glaucoma is known as the 'The Silent Thief of Sight'.
Glaucoma has no early symptoms and most people don't know they have it. There is no cure. The only way to check for Glaucoma is to get a comprehensive eye exam. Start the New Year in the right direction and schedule an eye exam today.
