This coming Monday, we remember and honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King’s path was to build a manifestation of hope – hope that is pure and enduring, ushering in the greater good to arrive at a better tomorrow. He inspired us with his words and peaceful challenges to racial injustice. We carry his mission forward, and celebrate his incredible efforts to bring our country together in unity.

This is Nicole Nelson, RN, at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham, MA. Yesterday, Nicole became one of the first Tenet employees to receive Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine and the first employee at MWMC to receive it! Nicole is a hero and one of the many across our company helping to share in this tremendous moment of hope. This milestone in our fight against COVID-19 reflects the courage and determination of everyone involved. That includes the scientists and researchers who poured their hearts into finding a vaccine in hopes of saving lives; the tens of thousands of volunteers who participated in clinical trials; the companies involved in bringing the vaccine to life at a timeline that seemed impossible to reach; and most importantly, all of our healthcare workers and those around the world who continued to care for patients with kindness and compassion in hopes that we would reach this moment. Our gratitude is boundless!

Today, on Veterans Day, we honor those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. It is the one day we come together to pay tribute to the men and women who ensured we could benefit from a free and open society.

Our company has the privilege of having many veterans on our teams. These individuals served across all branches of our military and many saw service in far-reaching areas of the world, bringing the hope of peace and security to all. Many served in dangerous and difficult situations – and they did so to ensure the freedoms we have would continue.

Heroes are not born, rather they come to be based on the way they stand for integrity, honor, resilience and compassion. The passion of our country’s veterans to save, protect and stand up for our freedom is inspiring. We thank each of them for their service and commitment to freedom, and we salute them and their families for the many sacrifices they have made for our country.

As the school year approached, Jennifer Fantich became concerned about how her kids would handle a mask when they returned to school. Her solution? Creating beaded chains to hold the mask in place. After posting on social media, Jennifer was immediately flooded with messages on how to purchase the chains. She then wondered how she could help others on a broader scale. Jennifer contacted Children's Hospital of Michigan and began donating a chain to the hospital for every chain that was ordered. Watch the heartwarming interview below:

"I posted them and I was immediately flooded with (direct messages) with where to purchase, and where you could get them," Fantich said. "I thought really?"

During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the role of our Respiratory Therapists has become more important than ever. Serving on the frontline during this most challenging of times, they have dedicated themselves – with great courage, compassion and professionalism – to saving the lives of patients who contract this highly contagious respiratory disease. In addition to providing care and breathing support, our Respiratory Therapists are also responsible for educating patients and staff about the latest treatments for COVID-19. They have rapidly adapted these therapies to the frequent changes and challenges of treating the disease, while working to ensure these therapies are safely implemented. Our Respiratory Therapists are an essential part of our COVID-19 response team and we honor and respect them for their tremendous dedication to our patients. This is a great story out of Valley Baptist Health System in Brownsville, Texas about the incredible support for a local firefighter to recover from COVID. While David Guerrero was in the hospital, his twin brother Luis, along with a fellow Brownsville firefighter and Captain Eugenio Cardenas, organized a visit with a squad of first responders to lend their well wishes. They raised the ladder from their truck to the window of the ICU, and each team member climbed up, one by one in the rain, to offer support and encouragement. They hung a colorful neon sign that said "Get Well Soon Chief," which everyone signed. David ultimately defeated COVID and was given a hero's farewell as he left the hospital. Members of the hospital staff, City of Brownsville Fire Department and his family lined the Stillman Lobby at Valley Baptist to offer their congratulations on his recovery.

Reporters with a hometown newspaper in Brownsville, Texas wrote a story that followed a local firefighter’s battle with COVID-19 at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville.
