If you or your loved one are beginning to transition into hospice care. You may have some questions. It's important to get the correct information when finding answers to your questions. So let's go through some very common myths about hospice and what the facts really are

1) Hospice is not a "place"
If you or your loved one are choosing hospice services, that does not mean you will be "going into" hospice. You will be receiving services from the comfort of your own home

2) Hospice is not just for cancer patients
Cancer patients do make up a large number of hospice patients. However if you or your loved one has a terminal illness, you may be eligible for hospice. These illnesses include; heart disease, COPD, liver disease, kidney failure, stroke, ALS, Alzheimers disease, multiple sclerosis, AIDS or any life limiting condition

3) Hospice is not about giving up
Rather it's about allowing you or your loved one to live in comfort and dignity for the time you have left

4) Hospice does not make death come sooner
The goal of hospice is to make the quality of life the best it can be in the final months, weeks and/or days. Hospice neither prolongs life nor quicken the dying process

5) Morphine prescribed to hospice patients does not cause premature death
Hospice nurses are specially trained in administering morphine and will only administer the dose necessary to alleviate you or your loves one's pain.

If you have any further questions about hospice, please discuss with your doctor and let them know that IServe Healthcare are ready to serve you and your family.

If your doctor believes hospice is right for you or your loved one, please have them reach out to us today. We look forward to assisting you and your family

Sadly, sometimes remission is no longer an option for cancer patients. That's where iServe comes in!

We hope you are enjoying your December. As the weather cools down, don't forget to stay warm. I always enjoyed a cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows and whip cream as a child playing in the snow. There isn't much snow here in Texas, but it sure does like to get cold during the winter. Stay safe out there.
