Me to influencers pushing daily electrolyte drinks and alkaline water. 🤦‍♀️

Electrolytes + alkaline water are having a moment… but here’s the reality 👇

As a registered dietitian, I can tell you: most people do not need daily electrolyte drinks.

Electrolytes (like sodium, potassium, and magnesium) are already found in everyday foods like fruits, veggies, dairy, and even bread. For the average person doing light-to-moderate exercise, plain water + a balanced diet is more than enough to maintain hydration.

Electrolyte drinks can be helpful in specific situations:
✔️ Prolonged, intense exercise (think >60–90 minutes, especially in heat)
✔️ Heavy sweating
✔️ Illness with vomiting/diarrhea

But for everyday use? Many of these drinks are just expensive flavored water, often with added sugars or unnecessary sodium.

Now let’s talk about alkaline water…

Your body already tightly regulates its pH. What you drink doesn’t meaningfully change your blood pH, otherwise we’d be in serious trouble.

Research shows no consistent evidence that alkaline water:
✖️ “detoxes” your body
✖️ improves hydration beyond regular water
✖️ changes overall health outcomes

In fact, your stomach is highly acidic for a reason: it helps break down food and protect you from harmful bacteria. Alkaline water doesn’t override that.

Bottom line:
💧 Save your money
💧 Drink regular water
💧 Use electrolytes strategically as appropriate (not daily)

Friendly reminder: complex carb + lean protein (or healthy fat) = happy blood sugar and increased satiety ❤️🙌🙏🙏🙏🙏

Easy weeknight dinner that checks all the boxes 👏

This one is on repeat at our house because it’s FAST, kid-approved, and actually balanced 🙌

How to make it:

✨ Bake Texas toast per package instructions. (Is this the healthiest option? No. Do I care? Also no.)

✨ Brown lean beef + add your favorite jarred sauce (no need to overcomplicate it!)

✨ Once toast is done, press a little well in the center

✨ Fill with meat sauce + top with mozzarella

✨ Back in the oven for ~5 minutes until melty and golden

Serve with a simple side salad or any non-starchy veggie 🥗

Why I love it as a dietitian:

✔️ Carbs for energy (toast)

✔️ Protein for fullness (lean beef + cheese)

✔️ Fiber + nutrients from your veggie side

✔️ Comes together in under 30 minutes

Balanced, realistic, and something your kids will actually eat 🙌

Save this for your next busy night! ❤️

I HATE meal prep. For me, I find it takes the joy out of eating! Eating the same thing daily makes me sad. But, I get it.

Meal prep helps take the guessing out of “what’s for dinner” and can help make the healthy choice the easy choice.

When I do meal prep, this beef sweet potato, cottage cheese bowl is one of my faves. It’s viral for a reason!!

What’s your favorite thing to meal prep?! This was lunch today 💁‍♀️ (and tomorrow. And the next day 😅)

As a registered dietitian, I get asked about the “Dirty Dozen” list ALL the time, and here’s the truth 👇

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) ranks produce based on the presence of pesticide residues—> not actual risk to your health.

✔️ The data they use (from the USDA) consistently shows that over 99% of produce has pesticide levels within EPA safety limits (PMID: 21776262)
✔️ Many residues are found in trace amounts far below levels of concern
✔️ Washing and preparing produce further reduces residues

Even more concerning? Research suggests lists like this can discourage people from eating fruits and vegetables at all!

And THAT is a much bigger risk to your health.

Bottom line:
🥦 Eating more fruits & vegetables (organic OR conventional) = strongly linked to better health
🚫 Avoiding produce because of fear = not evidence-based

Don’t let fear-based marketing keep you from foods your body needs 💚
