**Monday Myth Buster**
A completely hypoallergenic animal DOES NOT exist! People with pet allergies will likely have trouble with any dog or cat, regardless of its breed. The allergic reaction is triggered by proteins in the animal's saliva and skin, no matter how much hair it has.

Allergen immunotherapy (better known as allergy shots) can treat pet allergies! Call us to see if allergy shots are right for you!

Have you ever wondered how you affect your child’s perspective on food allergies?
Your attitude matters!
Parents who are confident and avoid voicing negative feelings about food allergies have children that mirror the same attitude. Avoid being apologetic and rather be matter-of-fact when explaining your child’s allergy. Don’t be panicked, but rather self-assured when your child’s classroom has a party. Your child will be apt to follow your lead!

Holidays are fast-approaching and preparing meals can be challenging for those with food allergies. Here are our 5 tips for reading food labels!
Do you have any helpful tips? If so, share below!

💪 The “Top 8” food allergens (milk, soy, egg, wheat, peanut, tree nuts, fish, and shellfish) are required by the Food Allergy Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA) to be clearly labeled.

🎉 In 2021, FALCPA added sesame as the 9th major food allergen! (However, the requirement to label sesame does not go into effect until January 2023).

🥑 If you are allergic to any foods other than one of the major allergens, your allergen is NOT required to be identified in the “Contains ” statement. You must read the full ingredient label!

🧐 Look for hidden food alternate names. For example, wheat can be referred to as farina, gluten, or bread crumbs.

🔍Manufacturers are NOT required to include warnings regarding cross-contamination (in other words, foods processed on the same manufacturing line). Ingredients and manufacturing processes can change without warning. Make a habit of reading labels carefully every time!
