Women’s Health Month is a reminder that understanding your breast cancer risk can play an important role in early detection.
Women with a high risk for breast cancer may need to begin annual screening earlier than the standard recommendation. Factors like family history, BRCA gene mutations, prior chest radiation, or certain breast conditions can increase risk.
The American College of Radiology recommends all women receive a breast cancer risk assessment by age 25.
If you have questions about your personal risk or when to begin screening, talk with your physician and learn more about mammography services at Southwest Diagnostic Imaging Center.
