Drug Overdose Death Rates βοΈ
Part of National Recovery Month is examining the statistical data that causes people to become more aware of the dangers of substance use. The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention produced an article in June this year that examines the rate of increased deaths from 1999-2021.
According to this article, "More than 106,000 persons in the U.S. died from drug-involved overdose in 2021, including illicit drugs and prescription opioids." There seems to be more male deaths than female deaths, however, both are on a rise yearly. Additionally, "Deaths involving synthetic opioids other than methadone (primarily fentanyl) continued to rise with 70,601 overdose deaths reported in 2021. Those involving stimulants, including co***ne or psychostimulants with abuse potential (primarily methamphetamine), also continued to increase with 32,537 overdose deaths in 2021 (Source: CDC WONDER)."
For more information, please see the article that is being referenced. We hope this will be enlightening and help shed light on the dire need to help others receive treatment:
