Today's is Nancy Herron, an Acute Mental Health Social Worker at the Dallas VA Medical Center's Inpatient Psychiatric Unit.
Nancy's dedication to service spans an impressive military career, beginning with two years of active duty in the Air Force, followed by 28 years in the Air National Guard. Her commitment to helping others didn't stop with her military retirement - she's since dedicated another 15 years to serving Veterans at the VA, bringing a unique perspective as both a Veteran and a mental health professional.
During her time in the Air National Guard, Nancy took on a particularly meaningful role that showcased her commitment to military families. "I was offered the opportunity to work with the Adjutant General of Texas as the State Youth Coordinator for the State of Texas," she shares. "I coordinated activities for children whose parents were deployed to OIF/OEF." This experience supporting military children during some of their most challenging times adds another layer of understanding to her current work in mental health care.
Now, as an Acute Mental Health Social Worker in the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit, Nancy continues to make a profound impact on the Veteran community. Her combined experience as a Veteran and her years of supporting military families gives her a deep understanding of the challenges Veterans face, making her especially effective in her role.
