It is National Women's Health Week, which serves as a great reminder to check in with yourself and make your health a priority βœ…

Here are some steps that YOU can take for better overall health:

May is National Maternal Depression Month, a time to focus and spread awareness on the very real condition of Postpartum Depression.

Often mistaken for the β€œbaby blues,” PPD lasts much longer and the signs and symptoms are more intense, eventually interfering with your ability to care for your baby.

Preventing PPD is very important and can only be done through awareness and education. Try to embrace some of the following healthy behaviors that can reduce your risk of PPD:

πŸ’› Breastfeed
πŸ’› Have a good relationship with your significant other
πŸ’› Increase B-Complex Vitamins
πŸ’› Eat a balanced diet
πŸ’› Exercise
πŸ’› Hydrate

πŸ’Œ Dear Counselors,

It's okay to say that you're struggling. It's okay to say that you're discouraged, exhausted, anxious or unhappy.

We spend all day asking clients to share their feelings, yet many of us feel hesitant to open up and talk about our own mental health issues in the workplace.

By partnering with Okay to Say, just know that yes...even YOUR voice matters when you're with the Taylor Counseling Group family. In addition, for every session our therapists conduct, Taylor Counseling Group donates $1 toward Okay to Say and their initiatives.
It's , where we share unique ways to increase YOUR dopamine levels! πŸ’›

Have you heard of the dopamine diet? The dopamine diet is all about increasing our "happy hormone" levels by eating foods that are thought to boost dopamine, and also by cutting some things out.

What to Stick To:
πŸ§€ Dairy foods such as milk, cheese and yogurt
πŸ— Unprocessed meats, such as chicken
🐟 Omega-3 rich fish, such as salmon
🍳 Eggs
🍌 Fruits and veggies, in particular bananas
πŸ₯œ Nuts, such as almonds and walnuts
🍫 Dark chocolate

What to Avoid:
🍷 Alcohol
β˜•οΈ Caffeine
🍩 Processed sugar

What are YOU going to eat this week? πŸ˜‹
⛔️ PAUSE ⛔️ and take a minute to stop scrolling on your timeline. Ask yourself how YOU are doing (and be honest!) πŸ’›

It is National Mental Health Awareness Month, so it is a great time to do a quick mental health check-in with yourself. Your mental health matters just as much as your physical health. Access to mental health should be affordable and normalized so we must all come together as advocates.

What does the message "Together for Mental Health" mean to you?

It is not uncommon for veterans to experience PTSD. Without treatment, the psychological symptoms of PTSD are likely to worsen over time. Along with severe depression and anxiety. Other serious outcomes may include increased suicidal ideation, problems managing anger and aggression.

If you, or someone you know, suffers from PTSD, our counselors are here to help.

Also, the Empifany app just launched a new course, β€œMental Health Fitness for Veterans" where Matthew Drumm, M.A. LPC will guide you through the course as he goes through the different emotional stages that veterans may experience.

A study conducted by researchers at University College London and Vue Cinema found that people who watched movies experienced improved mental focus.

While too much screen time can be harmful, engaging in hobbies that balance your work and professional life can be healthy.

Distractions and entertainment could provide rest and relaxation and replenishing qualities, according to a study. A musical or romantic comedy, such as "La La Land", could be just the distraction you need to relax after a long day.

As a counselor, it is easy to neglect your own mental health when your career is dedicated to helping clients with their own needs.

We are all human and deal with anxiety, depression and other issues. This is especially true when your clients are speaking to painful and traumatic experiences.

The issues they are working through can cause counselors to experience symptoms of trauma themselves.

It is vital for counselors to provide for their own self-care and mental health is paramount so our new series Counselor 2 Counselor normalizes mental health issues that counselors face.
