๐Ÿ’• Emotions exist! Emotions are a natural part of being human, and guiding children to peacefully coexist with their emotions is essential for their development and overall well-being.

Emotional regulation, which involves understanding, managing, and expressing emotions in a healthy manner, is far more constructive than emotional suppression, which involves suppressing emotions without effectively dealing with them.

By teaching children the skills of emotional regulation, we empower them to navigate their feelings in a positive and adaptive manner ๐Ÿ’•

๐Ÿ’•Acknowledging and apologizing for our past mistakes or unhealed wounds is an essential part of parenting. By doing so, we show our children that we are human, capable of making errors while taking responsibility for our actions and personal growth. This vulnerability and honesty can foster a deeper connection and trust between parents and children, and it also teaches them the importance of accountability and continous self-improvement. ๐Ÿ’•

โค๏ธ Our children hold a unique position in our lives as our most influential teachers
guiding us on a profound journey of self-discovery and personal transformation.

โค๏ธ Through their innocence, curiosity, and pure hearts, they have the power to transform us into better individuals.

โค๏ธ They teach us valuable lessons about love, compassion, patience, and resilience. They remind us to appreciate the simple joys in life and to view the world with a sense of wonder.

โค๏ธ They challenge us to examine our own beliefs, biases, and behaviors, pushing us to become more understanding, open-minded, and compassionate individuals.

โค๏ธ Through their presence, they teach us the true meaning of life โ€“ that it is about cherishing the moments, nurturing relationships, and finding joy in the simplest of things.

๐Ÿงน CHORES! CHORES! CHORES! ๐Ÿงน

Let's reintroduce chores into our children's lives, as they offer neurological benefits for their future success!

Scientific research has indeed shown that self-regulation is a crucial aspect of leading a prosperous life. And guess what? Chores serve as powerful brain training tools for strengthening self-regulation!

By engaging in chores, children learn to manage their impulses, stay focused on tasks, and regulate their emotions. These activities require discipline, perseverance, and the ability to work towards long-term goalsโ€”essential skills for achieving success in various areas of life.

Similar to bike riding, we can't expect a child to master chores without guidance. Positive and consistent skill training yields positive and consistent outcomes! ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’ช

To fill your child's cup doesn't mean to get him the most expensive toy or another pair of his favorite shoes. Today's children often have an excess of unnecessary presents but lack the essential: our emotional presence.

Here are some absolutely cost-free ways to fill their cups: tickle them, put a love note in the lunch box, dance together, crawl together, swim together, read together, have pillow fights, have family dinners with candles, share stories next to a fireplace, and simply tell your child 'I love you'.

These simple and cost-free gestures will make a world of difference. ๐Ÿ’•

๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Being a parent is a journey filled with challenges and opportunities. One of the greatest challenges we face is to be the role models we want our children to emulate. Children learn through observing our actions and reactions. If we want our children to develop great self-regulation skills, we need to work on developing our own, so that our kids can follow in our footsteps. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

Truth!

โค๏ธ Happiness requires a conscious choice!

We have the power to decide whether we dwell on problems or focus on finding solutions! ๐ŸŒŸ

We have the power to choose between assigning blame to others or taking responsibility for ourselves! ๐ŸŒŸ

Genuine happiness is only achieved when we actively choose it. The decision lies within us!

Just imagine how different our lives would have been if we had been equipped with this knowledge during our childhood.

BUT, here's the good news:

It is never too early or too late to transform our mindset!

Every day presents a new opportunity for a fresh start, a shift in thinking, and a new life!

When we learn to cultivate happiness, we also impart this invaluable skill to our children.

We become their life coaches, showing them the path to happiness and a fulfilling life. ๐Ÿ’ž

Love this!!-Dr Kravitz

What used to cause me to be a very challenging child now enables me to make a positive impact on people's lives!

What I was once punished for as a child now contributes to my ability to make a difference in the world!

Difficult children are often SENSITIVE children. Their mission is to bring about CHANGE! They enter the world with an immense energy. Resisting their energy is futile; it will not lead to success!

Instead, GUIDE their energy to help them make a difference:

- Assign them leadership roles at home and school.

- Entrust them with responsibilities that involve assisting the elderly, younger children, or animals.

- Provide opportunities for them to explore their creativity through activities such as cooking, gardening, and writing.

- Allow them to express their opinions and provide them with opportunities to be heard.

- Recognize and acknowledge their efforts in making a difference.

The moment we begin embracing their energy instead of fighting against it, we will uncover an incredible, empathetic, and generous soul hidden behind their perceived "difficult" behavior.

With time, patience, and empathy, we can guide our "difficult" children towards transforming into powerful leaders!

More words of wisdom:

Parenting books often recommend giving children control and choices, but it's crucial to remember that it doesn't apply to EVERYTHING!

In my experience, I frequently hear parents asking their kids:

๐ŸŒ™ "Is it time for bed?"
๐Ÿงธ "Is it time to put the toys away?"
๐Ÿฅฆ "Do you want to eat vegetables?"
๐Ÿงฅ "Do you want to put on your jacket?"
๐Ÿš— "Are you ready to get out of the car?"

Don't be surprised if your child responds with a resounding "NO!!!" ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ

Why?

Simply because your child is answering your question. You asked if they want to do something, and they say "No" because they don't want to do it. ๐Ÿ˜„

Questions like "Do you want?" or "Are you ready?" imply there's an option to decline.

So, here's a helpful approach: Instead of asking or giving choices where there is no choice, tell your child what to do, but add some playfulness to it! ๐ŸŽ‰

๐Ÿฆ‹ "Let's fly like butterflies to bed!"
๐Ÿฅ• "We are going to eat a long and green vegetable. What could it be?"
๐Ÿฆ "Let's get out of the car to see a beautiful bird."
๐Ÿš— "Let's see how many cars you can tidy up in 2 minutes."
๐Ÿงฅ "Who is going to put on a jacket first, you or me?"

Remember, there are times for choices, but there are also moments when it's perfectly fine to tell kids what to do in a child-friendly way, without giving them choices or asking for their permission. ๐Ÿ’–

06/04/2023

๐ŸŒŸ We all go through tough times, but remember, we can't quit! We have to keep going, no matter what.

Why?

Because our children are watching us and learning from us how to deal with their life's challenges and how not to give up. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ž

When our children see us facing adversity head-on with strength and determination, it teaches them invaluable life lessons.

They learn that setbacks are temporary, and with perseverance, they can overcome anything. By being resilient, we empower them to develop their own skills to navigate through life's challenges ๐Ÿ’ช .

This is so true!
06/02/2023

This is so true!

After raising two of my own children and supporting thousands of families in their parenting journey, I've come to a realization that may surprise you: our obsession with making our kids happy now can actually make them less happy in the long run. But fear not, because this is reversible if we shift our parenting mindset!

Instead of constantly focusing on our child's happiness, let's shift our attention to nurturing their resilience. โค๐Ÿ’ชโค

To promote resilience, it's important to do less for our children and teach them to do more for themselves. Here are a few examples:

๐ŸŽ’ Let them carry their own backpacks.
๐ŸŒ Encourage them to peel their own bananas.
๐Ÿ“š Teach them to pack their own homework.
๐Ÿ›๏ธ Allow them to make their own beds.
๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Have them put their own plates in the sink.
โฐ Let them be responsible for waking themselves up.
๐ŸŽญ Give them space to entertain themselves and be bored at times.

By allowing our children to face and overcome these simple daily challenges, we begin their resilience training. It's through these experiences that they learn problem-solving skills, independence, and the ability to adapt to different situations.

So let's worry less about our child's immediate happiness and invest more in building their long-term resilience to empower them to become resilient, capable individuals who can navigate life's challenges with confidence ๐Ÿ’ช

Modeling emotional regulation is an excellent starting point for teaching children this skill. When children observe parents effectively managing their emotions and taking time to cool down before responding, they learn valuable strategies to apply in their own lives. ๐Ÿ’•

Sofia loves โ€œher Dr. Mitchellโ€โค๏ธ
My children, Jack and Kaitlyn, met their new pediatrician yesterday!

Dr. Isha Mannering is ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘.

Jack is 4'2". One foot shorter than me at 8.

I'm so grateful that Dr. Mannering and I met. We are in a local DFW doctor group together, and the group is full of amazing women physicians. That's how I met my Internist, Dr. Boram Kim Park. It is great to have another advocate for my children who also understands and could clearly see our shared hypermobility syndrome. Preventative medicine is my passion for many reasons and Dr. Mannering shares in this. She thought of getting them started with pediatric cardiology, rheumatology, and ophthalmology. All areas of care that are affected by hypermobility syndrome. The goal is quality of life and longevity, and I pray that my journey and my advocacy will have lifelong benefits for the two people that I love more than life itself. I feel so full of gratitude at this point in my journey.

Do you guys offer pediatrician on call? I took my daughter in yesterday and she seems to have an allergic reaction.
I'd like to share a rather unusual, free, parenting education resource...bumper stickers! Advancing Parenting, a Camarillo CA nonprofit, produces parenting tips bumper stickers and makes them available at no cost to businesses, organizations, clinics, schools, and individuals. There are fifty-one in a set and each bumper sticker communicates a parenting behavior or practice generally recognized as supporting the healthy development of children. Just one will be read thousands of times!

Bumper stickers are a unique and powerful way to educate everyone about parenting. At stoplights drivers and passengers point, smile, and nod. Conversations begin and often a phone is used to take a photo of the sticker right at the stoplight. Presumably, they are being shared on social media. It's wonderful to see!

Sets of the stickers can be put in holders and placed on counters and tables so folks can select one or more for their cars. Visit www.advancingparenting.org to order this free resource. Use a computer...our website is not optimized for phones. Please share.
