Sofia loves “her Dr. Mitchell”❤️
My children, Jack and Kaitlyn, met their new pediatrician yesterday!

Dr. Isha Mannering is 👍👍.

Jack is 4'2". One foot shorter than me at 8.

I'm so grateful that Dr. Mannering and I met. We are in a local DFW doctor group together, and the group is full of amazing women physicians. That's how I met my Internist, Dr. Boram Kim Park. It is great to have another advocate for my children who also understands and could clearly see our shared hypermobility syndrome. Preventative medicine is my passion for many reasons and Dr. Mannering shares in this. She thought of getting them started with pediatric cardiology, rheumatology, and ophthalmology. All areas of care that are affected by hypermobility syndrome. The goal is quality of life and longevity, and I pray that my journey and my advocacy will have lifelong benefits for the two people that I love more than life itself. I feel so full of gratitude at this point in my journey.

Do you guys offer pediatrician on call? I took my daughter in yesterday and she seems to have an allergic reaction.
I'd like to share a rather unusual, free, parenting education resource...bumper stickers! Advancing Parenting, a Camarillo CA nonprofit, produces parenting tips bumper stickers and makes them available at no cost to businesses, organizations, clinics, schools, and individuals. There are fifty-one in a set and each bumper sticker communicates a parenting behavior or practice generally recognized as supporting the healthy development of children. Just one will be read thousands of times!

Bumper stickers are a unique and powerful way to educate everyone about parenting. At stoplights drivers and passengers point, smile, and nod. Conversations begin and often a phone is used to take a photo of the sticker right at the stoplight. Presumably, they are being shared on social media. It's wonderful to see!

Sets of the stickers can be put in holders and placed on counters and tables so folks can select one or more for their cars. Visit www.advancingparenting.org to order this free resource. Use a computer...our website is not optimized for phones. Please share.
Hello! Wondering if you have any advice the parents of the "only child" going through isolation. My daughter is almost 3yo and I know she is supposed to be transitioning out of parallel play into more social/interactive play. Should we be concerned with developmental delays??
Thanks 😊

Thank you for a fun night at the game! Needless to say, Cody enjoyed herself 😂
So thankful for our pediatrician Dr. Kravitz! During our 18 month visit with her she recommended the book “making the terrible twos terrific” by John Rosemond, particularly the potty training sections, and we are so grateful she did! We started potty training immediately and our son was completely potty trained after about one month of following the program (including at naps and through the night)! We’re so impressed with Dr. Kravitz and all of her suggestions/ recommendations for our kids!
DJ is cooling in his shades at his 3 year check up with Dr. Clarke 😀😃

Great news!
Moderna Announces its COVID-19 Vaccine Phase 2/3
Study in Children 6 Months to Under 6 Years Has
Successfully Met Its Primary Endpoint.
The study FLP has been involved in has been successful! --Dr. Kravitz

Two 25 μg doses of mRNA-1273 in participants 6 months to under 6 years met primary endpoint with robust
neutralizing antibody titers similar to adults mRNA-1273 was generally well tolerated in this age group
Although not a primary endpoint, statistically signicant vaccine efficacy was observed during the Omicron wave that was consistent with the lower two-dose effectiveness against Omicron seen in adults. Moderna is moving forward with global regulatory submissions for mRNA-1273 for primary vaccination of
children 6 months to under 6 years of age
Additionally, Moderna has initiated a submission to the FDA for emergency use authorization of mRNA-1273
in children 6 to under 12 years of age; mRNA-1273 is approved for use in this age group in Europe, Canada
and Australia.

New CDC (mask) guidance: My two cents 02/26/2022

New CDC (mask) guidance: My two cents

Today the CDC published new COVID tracking metrics that correspond to 3 different COVID risk levels by county. Green = low, Yellow = medium, and Orange = high. Attached to each risk level are recommendations regarding state level and individual risk mitigation strategies like masking. Per the new guidelines masking is only required for high risk individuals. We expect local school districts will quickly adopt these new recommendations. Due to the presence of high risk individuals in our office, we will continue to require masks for office visits. For more information about these new changes, check out this helpful article written by an epidemiologist.

New CDC (mask) guidance: My two cents This afternoon the CDC provided on- and off-ramps for public health mitigation measures (like masks) going forward. The CDC made it clear that the sole purpose of the new framework is to prevent severe disease and, thus, not overwhelm hospital systems at the local level.

Chemicals in lavender and tea tree oil appear to be hormone disruptors 02/15/2022

Chemicals in lavender and tea tree oil appear to be hormone disruptors

An astute father just sent this article to me. While I do not want to cause any panic or worry anyone who occasionally uses essential oils on their children, I do think this article and the findings of the study they report here should urge us to not use them regularly on prepubertal children. While the article discusses the problems with boys being exposed to these estrogenic or anti-androgenic chemicals, they could potentially cause problems and signs of early puberty in young girls as well.--Dr. Kravitz

Chemicals in lavender and tea tree oil appear to be hormone disruptors A new study lends further evidence to a suspected link between abnormal breast growth in young boys—called prepubertal gynecomastia—and regular exposure to lavender or tea tree oil, by finding that key chemicals in these common plant-derived oils act as endocrine-disrupting chemicals. The study ...

Longer Screen Time in Boys at Age 1 Linked to Autism Diagnosis

Parents, please try to avoid screen time in children under 2. We already knew it makes attention problems more likely, but this study indicates it raises the risk of an autism spectrum diagnosis 2-3 fold in 1 year old boys.--Dr. Kravitz

MIS-C patients may have lasting symptoms from COVID-19 02/08/2022

MIS-C patients may have lasting symptoms from COVID-19

Now that we know that vaccination against COVID is very effective at preventing MIS-C, this is the biggest reason why I believe vaccination of children is important. While the risk of MIS-C is statistically low and is more likely in children with other health problems, many children who have gotten MIS-C were previously healthy. Let's prevent long term problems and illness from COVID.--Dr. Kravitz

MIS-C patients may have lasting symptoms from COVID-19 A small study of children hospitalized with COVID-19, published in the Journal of Child Neurology, found that some patients had neurological complications for weeks or months after the illness as part of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children. The complications included sleep disruption, head...

US mulls new dosing intervals for mRNA COVID-19 vaccines

Very happy to hear that the CDC is considering dosing interval change to improve efficacy and safety.--Dr. Kravitz

US mulls new dosing intervals for mRNA COVID-19 vaccines The CDC is considering extending the recommended interval between the primary series' two doses to eight weeks to improve their efficacy and reduce the risk of heart inflammation among those being administered mRNA vaccines such as the vaccines from by Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna.

I wish I had discovered Victoria when I was a young Mom. I definitely did not do or say all the right things when my children were upset, but just being aware of more soothing language can help us start to use words that can help our children regain their composure and help us retain our own.--Dr. Kravitz
