Today our UTSW PS Alumni, CAPTAIN Eamon O’Reilly had an incredible retirement ceremony on the USS Midway in San Diego. He’s moving to Missouri and joining the faculty at University of Missouri. He will have an immediate impact there. They are so lucky to have him! Congratulations Dr. O’Reilly! 💯

This past year, we have seen several new products enter the market for use. Like many of the current products available, most have a history in Europe and around the globe but still need to go through the rigorous FDA approval process. While adding new products creates some confusion for both physicians and patients alike, I personally love more products. This allows more choices and specificity for each of our patient’s needs. I am often asked about splitting procedures up to help diminish downtime as opposed to combining facial procedures into a one operation to achieve the desired outcome. Because the vast majority of our patients are healthy with few medical issues, this certainly is an option and is safe to do. The tear trough is a groove that sits close to the nose between the lower eyelid and cheek. On occasion this may begin to show in young people in their 20’s. Most of the time, it becomes more evident as we get older, and our face undergoes “aging changes”. This commonly includes loss of volume (fat) in the central cheek and more prominence of our eyelid “fat bags”. It can also be associated with more significant weight loss.

Its presence makes many of us feel like we look “tired” and older than we would care to look. The combination of the bulging eyelid fat and loss of fat in our cheeks give the illusion that our eyelid is longer vertically which is more consistent with aging. This is quite different that the lower
