From previous features, Peanut, Simon, Frasier and Lilith, Squash, Goldie, Zig, Clarabelle, Caspian, Cutie, Art, Chance, Eric and CJ are still waiting for their forever homes.

For this week, we have Fredrick for you:

Meet Fredrick! This 5½-year-old Mixed Breed dog was rescued from a hoarding situation in February of 2020 and he’s made a lot of progress in his time at the SPCA of Texas. He was so nervous when he first came to the shelter, wanting humans to just leave him alone. Now, he can’t stop grinning and barks when his human friends leave him! Fredrick bonds faster with women so ideally there will be at least one woman in the home with him. He’s a little clumsy and a lot socially awkward – he doesn’t always know how to interact with humans, but he tries his best. Once he’s comfortable with you, Fredrick loves ear rubs and will gently paw at you for more if you stop. Fredrick gets along well with calm, laid-back dogs and wouldn’t mind a doggie sibling, but he does just fine on his own. Fredrick will need a fenced-in yard, as he can walk well on the leash but sometimes just needs a quiet space to do his business. Fredrick will need an adults-only home where he can feel safe and comfortable. He is available for a trial adoption, so you can take him home for a few weeks to see if he’s a good fit for your home before making things official. If you’d like to meet Fredrick, please request an appointment at spca.org/dogadopt. Don’t forget, all dogs and cats 6 months and older are just $25 to adopt at the SPCA of Texas’ Dallas and Ellis locations. Fredrick is waiting to meet you at SPCA of Texas Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center.

Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.

In an effort to reduce the potential for COVID-19 to spread to more people via gatherings of people and protect the health and well-being of the animals in their care, their staff and volunteers, as well as the community, the SPCA of Texas is following all appropriate CDC guidelines. The SPCA of Texas is requiring masks to be worn at all of their facilities. The Jan-Rees Jones Animal Care Center is open for adoptions every day from noon to 6:00 PM. Animals are available by walk-in on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments are also available for select animals. Please browse available animals at spca.org/findapet and visit spca.org/dogadopt to inquire about a dog or spca.org/catadopt to inquire about a cat.

Product Spotlight: DOUXO S3
Our doctors prescribe Douxo products for pets with skin concerns. The shampoo gets lathered and allowed to soak on the skin then rinsed well. The mousse and spray is applied and then air dries. Topical treatment can often help manage chronic skin conditions.

Both Royal Canin and Science Diet offer breed specific formulas to meet the needs of palatability, kibble shape, texture, and more! Do you have a voracious eater? There's a kibble designed to encourage slowing down to chew. Smushy face cat? Diamond shaped kibble makes it easy for them to lick the kibble into their mouth. Both companies do food trials to learn what pets need to help meet all their nutritional needs.

For this week, we have Peanut for you:

Meet Peanut, a 2½-year-old Mixed Breed who is always ready to play and have fun. Peanut is a bionic dog – he might not be able to walk through a metal detector without setting it off, but at least he can play again! After two knee surgeries, he will always need to take it easy and not jump off porches or furniture to avoid putting additional stress on his joints, but Peanut doesn’t let anything slow him down. Peanut is a strong puller, so he might do better in a home with a yard where he can get a little time to get his energy out before walking on the leash, or at least someone who doesn’t mind very brisk walks. Peanut is super smart and loves cheese treats, so he’s already picked up both “sit” and “stay.” Peanut would greatly benefit from additional training to keep his mind sharp and improve his manners. He can get a little over excited especially first thing in the morning, so he’d love a home with kids 12 and up. Peanut is polite to other dogs on his walks and would like to meet any dogs in the home before adoption. Right now, all dogs and cats 6 months and older are just $25 to adopt at the SPCA of Texas’ Dallas and Ellis locations.
