As part of the recognition program our wound care nurse Teresa, RN, identifies a nurse that displays exemplary care to wound care patients admitted to the hospital. Last evening White Rock Medical Center held a Physician Open House and welcomed a mixture of our current medical staff and the medical providers from the White Rock community to come and see all of the amazing things that WRMC has coming in the future. WRMC recently has opened a multi-specialty clinic, expended service lines including GI, neurosurgery, ortho spine, pain management, and has many more to come! We look forward to continuing to provide the services that the White Rock community needs.

White Rock Medical Center would like to take time to recognize one of our Emergency Department nurses, Miguel (in the middle of the photo kneeling), as he takes a new step in his career from Bedside ED RN to a Nurse Practitioner. Miguel we thank you for your 8.5 years of service in our ED! You have always been a great leader and resource for our team. Miguel is know throughout the hospital as always having a smile and positive attitude. We will miss you and hope one day you find your way back to the White Rock family. Until then Congratulations and Good Luck in your next career step!!

Today at White Rock Medical Center we recognized our first Sunflower Award winner in Jennifer Aguilar from our Food Services Team. She is truly an asset to our WRMC team and we are lucky to have her. Jennifer was nominated more than once for this award by her peers. One of the nominations is below…

“When I think of this person, I think of the “cookie lady” because she is the one that makes
the best homemade cookies to sell in the cafeteria. She always has a smile and positive words to say to everyone. I have never heard her complain about anything and I see her
volunteering with delight whenever she can. She was a participant and volunteer at the
Bariatric walk in October which highlights the person she is. While I do not work directly with
the nominee, I know that each time I see her, there is only positivity and a person with a
servant’s heart. The term “serving with excellence” describes the nominee perfectly.”

Jennifer thank you for going above and beyond for our patients, visitors, physicians, and employees. We are lucky to have you as part of the WRMC team.

Last night we held our WRMC Hospital Holiday Party for our staff that included amazing food, a 360 photo booth, and some amazing prizes. Everyone had a great time celebrating the holidays and we enjoyed being able to give some amazing gifts to some of our amazing employees. We thank them for everything they have done for our facility and our community this year. The best is yet to come. Happy Holidays!!!

Looking back at White Rock Medical Center’s Physician and Director Christmas Party at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden . The music and decorations really put the team into the Holiday spirit. The food from Culinary Arts Catering was exceptional, the games our CNO Kelli put together brought a lot of laughs, and the evening ended with the team getting to walk the spectacular Twelve Days of Christmas spread throughout the gardens. Thank you to our physicians and directors that made the party fun.

With the holiday season upon us White Rock Medical Center wants to ensure that everyone remains safe this holiday season as they prepare their holiday meals. FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency and U.S. Fire Administration have provided a great Turkey Fryer Safety Info Sheet to help ensure that everyone stays safe and uninjured while making their holiday turkeys this year. If you have plans to fry a turkey this holiday season please take this preventative measures and take a look at the infographic to lower your risk of injury.

1. Make sure that the Turkey Fryer remains on an even surface so it does not tip over.
2. Make sure the Turkey Fryer remains at least 10 feet away from the house or garage.
3. Be sure to not overfill the Turkey Fryer with oil.
4. Do not attempt to fry a frozen turkey in the Turkey Fryer.
5. Be sure you have a thermostat to keep track of the oil temperature to prevent a fire from starting.
6. Protect your hands, children, and pets from the hot surface of the Turkey Fryer.

The clinical team at White Rock Medical Center met the rigorous requirements to achieve recertification as a Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center. The certification means that WRMC can provide life-saving medications and treatment for stroke patients – at a time when every minute counts.

Survey to earn the recertification reviewed the hospital’s model of care, patient volumes and outcomes, clinical practice guidelines, staff education and resources, stroke care governance, patient education and ongoing community education, among other requirements.

Yesterday morning we had the honor of hosting our friends from Dallas Police Department - Northeast Division for our Coffee With A Cop. We treated them to coffee, fruit, and donuts. Had great discussion about ways to improve our relationship and work to better the community we both serve.

White Rock Medical Center awarded its first BEE Award in November. BEE stands for Being Extraordinary Everyday. This award is designed to recognize our various nursing support staff in the building. Just as a daisy needs a bee to survive our nurses need their support staff. Our first recipient, Benny, goes over and beyond for not only our patients, but his co-workers and the facility every day. Here is what Benny's nomination said about him:

"Benny started working here at the hospital 8 years ago after his mother passed away here at this hospital from pancreatic cancer. Benny was a retiree from Xerox when this happened, and he switched careers to become a PCT. He immediately asked to speak to the manager of the MedSurg unit where his mother was admitted because he saw the way the nurses and techs took great care of his mother, and that manager gave him a chance to start working here. He remembered the manager was in tears when he came asking for the tech job while his mother was still in hospice. Since then, Benny has been passionate about caring for our patients. Benny goes above and beyond all the time to help our patients. I remember a time when he took patients who wanted to take a shower over to 2 South to give them a shower in an empty room because the ICU has no showers. That made the day for those patients. Benny is the go-to guy. He keeps track of all of our ICU supplies and has joined me in reducing some unnecessary expenses in the ICU. He is a good steward, always helpful and very flexible. He picks up extra shifts to help the ICU and other departments. Benny also anticipates needs and offers to help when available. There was one instance where Benny went down to help the ED team with compressions when he heard code blue announced three times overhead. Benny is not shy to embrace any challenge and stays very positive throughout any changes while adapting to it. Benny is not afraid to ask questions to seek more understanding. Even as a tech, Benny knows when an ECG rhythm is not normal. He was the first to draw the nurse's attention to a funny looking rhythm on the monitor, and immediately a code was called on the patient. That patient was saved because of Benny's vigilance and quick response to notifying the nurse. I cannot at this time fully express what Benny does for the ICU team and the entire hospital team, but I can attest that he upholds the values and mission of this hospital and wishes for him to be recognized for his exceptional work he does for this hospital, the community, and our patients."

White Rock Employee Skills Fair

As part of its commitment to providing continued education for high-quality patient care, White Rock Medical Center recently held its annual employee skills. In a fun and interactive group setting, White Rock staff came together to learn and refresh important clinical skills. “Staff can meet coworkers, interact with area leaders, ask questions and discuss challenges together. They can also learn from each other when learning as a group,” said Jennifer Floyd, clinical educator, who led the multi-disciplinary team that produced this year’s event. “The skills fair is a great way to not only learn and build confidence in skills, but also, ultimately, provide the safest care to our patients.”

Because we care about our community, staff volunteer each month to clean up trash on an adopted stretch of park and road.
