Mental health care should never depend on what someone can afford.

We provide free, accessible mental health services across Texas—because support, healing, and connection should be available to everyone.

We’ve supported over 4,000 individuals through free counseling groups, recovery support, art therapy, LGBTQIA+ support, and more—all led by Licensed Professional Counselors and offered at no cost.

But we can’t do this without community support.

Your donation directly helps us:
• Keep our weekly support groups completely free
• Expand access to quality mental health care
• Support underserved and creative communities
• Break stigma around mental health, addiction, and su***de

Every contribution—big or small—helps someone feel seen, supported, and not alone.

💛 Donate TODAY! Mental health care should never depend on what someone can afford. https://buff.ly/2xjJTTN

Together, we’re building a stronger, more supported community.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a time to challenge the myths that shape how we understand su***de—and how we support those who are struggling.

This series is led by our very own Dr. Peter Thomas, Vice President, as we continue bringing education, compassion, and truth into these conversations.

Myth #4: “Su***de is an escape.”

Many people experiencing suicidal thoughts are not truly wanting death—they are wanting relief. Freedom from emotional pain. Freedom from something that feels unbearable.

This distinction matters.

There is a meaningful difference between wanting an end to life and wanting an end to suffering. In moments of deep depression, that line can blur. Pain can become so consuming that it feels like the only way to escape it is to disappear entirely. The two ideas—ending life and ending pain—can become fused together.

Su***de can start to feel like an “escape,” but that belief is part of what makes it so dangerous. It narrows perception and convinces people there are no other options—even when change and relief are possible without ending a life.

Pain does not disappear through avoidance. It doesn’t go away by drinking, ignoring it, or pushing it down. It has to be moved through—but it does not have to be faced alone.

Support matters. Help matters. Connection matters.

If you or someone you know is struggling, you are not alone. Reaching out can make a real difference.

Feeling overwhelmed lately? You’re not alone. 🤍

Here are 5 gentle reminders when life feels too heavy:

*Name your feelings
*Take a break without guilt
*Avoid overloading your mind
*Don’t keep it all in
*Reconnect with yourself

You don’t have to carry everything at once. Healing starts with slowing down, checking in with yourself, and allowing support in. 🌿

Be kind to yourself today.

💚 Validation You Might Need Today

You’re not behind.
You’re not too much.
You’re allowed to rest without earning it.
You are enough.
You are loved.

Sometimes the world makes it feel like you need to constantly prove your worth—through productivity, progress, or perfection. But your value doesn’t increase when you’re doing more, and it doesn’t decrease when you’re doing less.

You don’t have to earn rest.
You don’t have to shrink yourself to be accepted.
You don’t have to be “fixed” to be worthy of care.

Take this moment gently. You’re allowed to exist without pressure.

🧠 Nervous System Check-In

Take a moment with this—no pressure, just awareness.
Your body is always communicating with you.
Sometimes before your mind can even catch up.

This isn’t about fixing anything right now—just noticing.
Just coming back to yourself.

You don’t have to hold everything all at once.
You can pause here.

Not everything needs to feel “severe” to matter. Sometimes the quiet signs are the most important ones.

You might need support if you notice:

*You feel overwhelmed most days
*You’re constantly exhausted, even after resting
*Your thoughts feel loud, fast, or hard to quiet
*You’re withdrawing from people more than usual
*Things you used to enjoy don’t feel the same anymore
*Small tasks feel heavier than they should
*You’re struggling to sleep, focus, or stay grounded
*You keep saying “I’m fine” but don’t feel it

You don’t have to wait until things get worse to reach out.

Support is allowed to start now.
