Becky Devine had a theory: could outreach teams, deployed days after a drug overdose or poisoning, save lives? Three years later, deaths are declining.

Between 2013 and 2018, the North Texas Poison Center reported just one call related to ni****ne pouch ingestion by a child under 6 years old.

Between 2019 and 2024, there were 103 calls related to ni****ne pouch poisonings.

Thatโ€™s an increase of more than 102 times, or 10,200%, for cases under 6 years old!

Ni****ne pouches can be extremely dangerous if ingested by children. Even small amounts of ni****ne can cause serious health effects in young kids, including nausea, vomiting, increased heart rate, seizures, or worse. These products often come in flavors and packaging that may look appealing to children, increasing the risk of accidental poisoning. Always store ni****ne pouches securely and out of reach of children to help prevent accidental ingestion.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Start the Conversation. Stop the Risk.

Fentanyl is the leading cause of overdose deaths in the U.S. โ€” claiming more than 150 lives every single day. ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ’Š
Just 2 milligrams (the size of a few grains of salt) can be deadly. In North Texas, 79.8% of all opioid-related deaths involved fentanyl in 2023.

Most teens and young adults who encounter fentanyl donโ€™t even know itโ€™s there.
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Talking with friends, family, and youth about fentanyl isnโ€™t easy, but it can save lives. Knowledge is prevention. Awareness is protection.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Start the conversation today. Together, we can stop the risk.

๐Ÿ“š Teachers: Avoid Burnout Before It Starts
The school yearโ€™s starting make your wellness a priority! ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿงโ€โ™€๏ธ Set Boundaries Early
Leave grading or emails at school when you can.
Your time at home is *yours* protect it. ๐Ÿ•”๐Ÿšช

๐Ÿง˜ Make Time for Self-Care
Schedule daily moments to recharge, even just 10 minutes.
A walk, deep breathing, or music = mental reset.

๐Ÿค Lean on Your People
Colleagues get it. Share ideas, vent, laugh together.
Community keeps you strong. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฌ

๐ŸŽ‰ Celebrate Small Wins!
Finished a stack of grading? Got through a tough day?
Recognize it. Small victories fuel big impact.

๐Ÿ’ฌ You matter. Your well-being matters.

๐Ÿšธ Back to School = New Pressures & New Choices
As kids head back to school, itโ€™s a critical time to stay informed and engaged. ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿง

๐Ÿ“Š Did You Know?
๐Ÿ”น 1 in 5 high school students have reported using prescription drugs without a doctorโ€™s order.
๐Ÿ”น The first use of substances often happens during transitionsโ€”like starting a new school year.
๐Ÿ”น Teens who regularly talk with their parents about drug risks are 50% less likely to use.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Tips for Parents & Caregivers:
โœ”๏ธ Start open, judgment-free conversations early
โœ”๏ธ Know your childโ€™s friends and where they spend time
โœ”๏ธ Keep medications locked and track quantities
โœ”๏ธ Be a role modelโ€”your habits matter more than you think

Letโ€™s work together to create a safe, healthy school year. ๐Ÿ’ฌ๐Ÿ’™

Our Story

The Region 3 Prevention Resource Center (PRC) is one of 11 Centers in the State of Texas that conducts activities aimed at improving substance abuse prevention strategies in our community. Focusing on alcohol (specifically underage drinking), ma*****na and prescription drugs, the PRC serves as a central data collection repository. The PRC encourages school districts in North Central Texas to administer the Texas School Survey, conducted by the Texas A&M Public Policy Research Institute. This survey provides local data and enhances our ability to make data-driven decisions when planning substance abuse prevention strategies. The PRC also identifies regional training needs and resources, and coordinates substance abuse prevention training opportunities for local community, county, and state organizations. For more information visit www.prc3.org.
