Traveling Man Needs a Kidney

Traveling Man Needs a Kidney This page is for friends, family, and all who want to support a traveling man get a fresh start.

Traveling Man in need of a kidney is a wonderful devoted husband with children. He was diagnosed at the early age of 8 with Polycystic Kidney Disease. This disease has impacted many members of his family including his mother and younger brother. The only cure for PKD is a transplant and we are at that point now as his Kidneys have grown extremely large and at times impact his ability to do normal

tasks due to pain. Due to the size of his Kidneys, he will be having a Bilateral Nephrectomy (Both Kidneys Removed). It is our hope that this can be done with the help of a living donor, so that he does not have to start Dialysis. The goal of this page is to educate, connect, and share our journey with a little humor.

**No one talks about the wait…**

The space between
“your kidneys are starting to decline”
and
“let’s prepare you for dialysis.”

The quiet fear.
The adjusting.
Learning how to live… differently.

Then you find a rhythm.
A routine.
A new normal.

A year goes by. Maybe a little more.

And then—
**boom.**

It stops working.
Your lifeline clots.

No warning.
No time to process.

Just…
**Emergency surgery.**

---

But here’s what *they don’t tell you*:

You learn how strong you really are.
You learn how to fight on days you didn’t choose.
You learn that resilience isn’t loud—
sometimes it’s just… showing up again.

And you also learn this truth:

**Dialysis is not the destination. It’s the bridge.**

A **living kidney donor** can change everything.
Not just extend life—
but restore it.

So I’m using my voice.

To raise awareness.
To start conversations.
To remind someone out there that saying “yes” to being a donor
could save a life like mine.

---

**Be the reason someone gets a second chance.** 💚

Traveling Man's kidneys are estimated to be the size of 4 footballs.

Make a fist with your hand. That’s the average size of a typical kidney. Now think of a football. That’s how big a polycystic kidney can be. Oh, and it can weigh up to 30 pounds. Hard to imagine, isn’t it?
Please share this photo to raise awareness.

We are at a pivotal moment for PKD research.

New scientific advances are unlocking possibilities that once felt out of reach. Scientists are calling this new period of rapid discovery “a golden age” in PKD research. This progress brings real urgency—but treatments can’t move forward without sustained support behind them.

Your donation during National Kidney Month will help keep life-changing research moving forward. And thanks to a generous donor, your gift will be matched, up to $15,000, making twice the impact.

This is exciting news for our family! This would help end a disease that has impacted every generation including most recently Traveling Man's baby girl. If we can get this reversed it would be life changing.

Mayo Clinic researchers have developed a promising gene-editing therapy that directly corrects a genetic mutation responsible for autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), the most common inherited kidney disorder.

A single treatment of the gene therapy slowed kidney cyst growth, improved heart and liver health, and extended survival in preclinical models of ADPKD.

We are incredibly grateful to the family who considered Traveling Man for a directed donor recipient. Our hearts also ache for them as they faced such an unimaginable and difficult decision.

Tonight, we received our first call. Due to the complexity of our case, our surgical team was ultimately unable to accept the donation. While this was hard news to process, we remain prayerful and deeply mindful of the family in California who is saying goodbye to a loved one. Their generosity in the midst of loss is a gift beyond words.

We are also profoundly thankful for our work family, whose support helped make this moment even possible. Their love and effort mean more than they know.

This week has held so much anticipation—being on edge, reminding ourselves that no news is good news. Now, we face some major decisions as we continue moving forward:

1. A living donor would provide the best outcome, as it would allow everything to happen in one surgery.
2. Alternatively, we would remove his native kidneys first, allow time for healing, follow a restrictive diet, and then return to the active waiting list.

We ask for prayers—for strength, clarity, and for increased donor registration. Every registered donor has the power to save lives.

Thank you for walking this journey with us. 💛
