Schools can do a lot for their students by going phone-free!

These are a few benefits of schools going phone-free I've learned from my counseling practice and readings:

1. Kids are less distracted and better able to learn
2. Kids learn to interact face-to-face rather than through a device
3. Kids experience the benefits of free play

Today is Digital Wellness Day!

Here are a few tips to improve your digital wellness in each category of digital wellness:

Productivity: To enhance focus, block you calendar for periods of focused work so no meetings will be scheduled

Environment: When working from home, separate your "home office" from your "private" areas with clear indicators of separation like dividers or closed doors

Communication: Have short tech-free breaks every 2 hours to help improve tech-life boundaries

Relationships: Don't phub or use your phone while interacting with someone in-person

Mental Health: Set a limit of how often and how long you will check emails and social media

Physical Health: Give your eyes a break using the 20-20-20 rule: for every 20 minutes spent looking at a screen, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds

Tech-Enabled Health: Use health tracking apps to understand your health and make changes to improve physical health

Digital Citizenship: Re-read your social media posts before sharing
