Kate, a Registered Behavior Technician, expresses how passionate she is about being able to help children reach their full potential and assisting their clients in overcoming barriers often caused by autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Function of behavior describes what purpose the behavior serves. There are 4 primary functions of behavior:

✨ Access to tangibles
💙 Automatic/sensory

In order to bring meaningful behavior change to the lives of our clients, we need to understand the behavior and foster behavior change in a manner that is safe, ethical, effective, and efficient.

To understand the behavior, we need to know the function, or why it’s happening in the first place. Then, behavior analysts can make a plan for how to address the behavior moving forward.

A few of our Florida Teams had a blast at the Palm Beach Autism Speaks Walk! The team members gathered with friends and family to support a great cause. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to sponsor and attend this walk to meet families in our community and show our support!💙

We're seeing nothing but green as the Dunwoody Center celebrated St. Patrick's Day in style! 🍀🌈💚 The Team was so excited to have fun with their clients by creating shamrocks with paint & bubble wrap. This activity helped clients work on their receptive ID, fine motor and attending skills!

Skills that children learn while in ABA Therapy✨Joint Attention

Joint attention is an early form of social and communicative behavior where two people share a common focus for the purpose of interacting with each other. For example, a mother points to a puppy at the park and says to a child, “Look! A puppy.” The child looks at the place her mother has pointed and sees the puppy. In this situation, the mother and the child have engaged in joint attention—that is, they shared attention to the puppy on purpose.

Research has shown a strong link between joint engagement and communication development. Without joint attention skills, interacting with and developing relationships with others could be difficult.

Our amazing clients learned about Jackie Robinson and his contributions to baseball and the world of sports. Jackie is a Georgia native, like many of our clients! To celebrate his memory, clients decorated their own baseball bats. ⚾❤️

Our Mid-Atlantic Leadership teams had a fulfilling day volunteering at the Second Harvest Food Bank in Charlotte, NC! The teams sorted through and packaged items to be shipped to various organizations.

The next day, the teams met to go over goals and training for the region and enjoyed fun icebreakers.

We are so grateful for our team members that care deeply about changing the world for children with autism and continue to make an impact on their community by giving back.
