🕉️ YOGIC WISDOM of the week:
Aparigraha (ah-par-ee-GRAH-hah) Non-grasping, letting go

Roots: A – not, without Parigraha – grasping, hoarding, holding tightly

The fifth yama, Aparigraha, is the practice of releasing our grip—on things, people, outcomes, and identities. It is freedom from clinging to what was or anxiously reaching for what could be.

Aparigraha does not deny pleasure or beauty but asks us to hold them lightly, without attachment. When we grasp less, space opens for trust, generosity, and presence in the unfolding moment.

In the arc of the yamas, Aparigraha is the soft hand at the end, reminding us that practice is not about accumulation but about release. In letting go, we discover that we already have enough, and we are enough.

This Week’s Yogic Wisdom
Brahmacharya (BRAH-mah-CHAR-yah)
Right use of energy
The fourth yama invites us to direct our vital energy wisely. Rather than restriction, Brahmacharya is about balance—asking ourselves: Where is my energy going, and is it serving what matters most?
This practice frees us from habits of excess, allowing our energy to flow toward purpose, presence, and the path of yoga.

SECOND SIDE YOGA | WEEK OF OCT 13.
the light fades earlier. Time to turn inward, recharge, and regroup.

THIS WEEK’S FOCUS: ASTEYA Non-stealing. Generosity. Living with gratitude instead of grasping.
Asteya asks: Are we taking more than we need? Or can we trust that what we have—and what we give—is enough?
“Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.” —JFK
A community thrives through reciprocity. When we receive support, training, or opportunities, Asteya invites us to honor that gift by giving back—contributing to the ecosystem that nourished our growth.

NEW THIS WEEK: Welcome Jace to Wednesday 5:15pm!
This Friday handstand is taught by Daniel
Richelle’s Saturday Vinyasa I is at 11:45am (not 5pm)
Jo’s Sunday 10am movimiento consciente note is bilingual.

ON THE MAT: Practice becomes less about accumulation, more about mutual nourishment. Show up. Give back. Grow together.
See you on the mat.

10 years of showing up.
Our monthly potluck returns this Monday—rain or shine, we show up for good yoga and good community. Bring your favorite dish to share.

Sunday 10am Movimiento Consciente is now bilingual.

This week’s yogic wisdom is SATYA (SAHT-yah) Truthfulness, authenticity
The second yama invites us to align with what is real—in our words, thoughts, and actions. Satya isn‘t about brutal honesty or wielding truth as a weapon. It asks us to pause: Is it true? Is it kind? Is it timely?
Living in Satya means embodying authenticity. Being steady, transparent, and real—so our practice and our lives are built on solid ground.
See you on the mat because consistency matters.

October is here and fall is settling in. The inquiring mind travels deep inwardly. With a successful retreat and Handstand/Flexibility workshop behind us, we’re back to regular practice.
Schedule update: Richelle’s Saturday 5pm class is moving to 11:45am to accommodate your practice better.
This week’s yogic wisdom: Ahimsa (ah-HIM-sah) Non-harming, compassion
Roots: A – not, without / Himsa – violence, harm
The first of the yamas, Ahimsa asks us to live with care—toward ourselves, others, and the world. It’s often described as non-violence, but its heart is compassion: to act, speak, and think in ways that do not cause unnecessary harm.
In classical yoga, Ahimsa is the foundation all other practices build on. Without it, the deeper limbs of yoga lose their grounding. It begins inward, with how we treat our own body and mind, and extends outward into how we relate to students, community, and the wider world.
Ahimsa is not passive avoidance of conflict, but an active cultivation of kindness and responsibility. It reminds us that every practice—on and off the mat—carries the power to either wound or to heal.
