Hip bursitis is a condition that occurs when a jelly-like sac known as the bursa becomes inflamed. This condition can be very painful, but one of our fellowship-trained hip doctors can offer you treatment options to provide relief.

Hip bursitis can be caused by injury, trauma, repetitive pressure or friction, or excess weight. The most common symptom is pain at the point of the hip. In the early stages of bursitis, the pain is described as sharp and intense, but it later develops into an ache that spreads across the hip.

There are a variety of nonsurgical treatment options that can be used to treat hip bursitis, such as:

• Activity modification, like avoiding activities that worsen the symptoms
• Assistive devices, such as a cane or crutches
• Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication
• Physical therapy
• Steroid injections

If nonsurgical treatment doesn’t offer a solution, surgical options may be recommended, such as hip arthroscopy. However, surgery is rarely necessary to treat hip bursitis. But if it is determined to be the best treatment option for you, one of our specialty-trained surgeons can remove the bursa through surgery.

FACE COVERING REQUIRED! | To ensure patient safety, staff safety and to comply with the Dallas County directive, all patients are required to wear proper face coverings which could be face masks, bandanas or scarves to enter our building. Staff will be asking you to answer some questions, take your temperature and make sure you are wearing proper face covering. Proper face covering is required for all over the age of 2.

Please bring your face covering with you to your scheduled appointment as we do not have enough Personal Protective Equipment on hand to provide a mask for each patient. If you do not have the appropriate face covering, you will not be allowed to enter the building and you will need to call our office to reschedule your appointment.

Dr. Michael Khair has just been named the US Men’s National Lacrosse team’s head orthopedist. Dr. Khair played lacrosse at the high school and collegiate levels before suffering an injury at Bowdoin College. Lacrosse has grown rapidly throughout Texas and the appointment of a Dallas based physician as head orthopedist of the national team is a significant step in continuing that growth.
