I wanted to make sure and take the time to properly address this post as I can see what is trying to convey but I believe it was done in the wrong manner. As a physical therapist, coach and Crossfit gym owner, this statement is troubling. 1st the purpose of becoming a physical therapist is not to treat athletes. It’s to learn about how the body functions, how to properly diagnose a patient and then help them return to a more functional life style. Our schooling consists of high level biomechanics classes, differential diagnosis and structural abnormalities. People have a misconception that as a healthcare provider we fix everything. WRONG! I can easily say the same about trainers. I wish I lived in a world where instructions from a trainer to foam roll will fix their back pain. NO! Just like any profession, there are good therapist and bad therapist. However, just because someone took a weekend course on how to “squat” doesn’t make them an expert on how to squat.l and definitely doesn’t take precedence over 3 years of a doctorate program where we have to pass a state exam, not just a 1 hr test. You can not put a human body in a “box” and fix everyone the same. If you do, then get out of my profession. I’ve worked hand in hand with great coaches/trainers such as and .fitness where we communicate on a clients issue or problem. Guess what, it was a team effort. So, I’d say let’s work together instead of trying to bash one another.

Most athletes don’t feel a hip flexor or quadriceps stretch just like . We first did the typical heel to buttocks measurement. No stretch felt at all and heel touches his gluteal muscle with no problem or pain. Most therapist do a quick assessment and compare an athlete to the “normal” patient. Some athletes such as dancers or yogis are extremely flexible but they also tend to pull their hamstring? Why? Because everyone can pull a muscle. So, when stretching this type of athlete, you must compare to the unaffected limb and then push/stretch until end-range. Properly stretching this muscle group consists of 1) Improper stabilization of the Lumbar Spine. 2) Hip has to be placed in an extended position past neutral before pushing the lower extremity towards the gluteal muscle. Don’t forget to look into our athlete recovery membership. 50% off for the first 25 athletes.
