The Safety Net Program has been serving Dallas and Collin County schools for more than 18 years! Our small groups teach adolescents skills that will help them succeed in life—making as many positive choices for themselves as possible along the way.

March 1st marks Self Injury Awareness Day and starts Self Harm Awareness Month.

There is a stigma surrounding self harm that makes it hard for people to talk about it and receive the help they need. Self injury is often a sign of underlying mental health conditions. Those who suffer from depression, anxiety, and other disorders turn to self harm as a way to relieve emotional pain, and it can lead to more self-destructing coping mechanisms.

Are you looking for ways to help your youth feel less anxious? Teaching breathing exercises can help anyone learn to calm themselves when they feel anxious or need to refocus. Deep breathing is one of the best ways to lower stress in the body. This is because when you breathe deeply, it sends a message to your brain to calm down and relax. Try this breathing exercise! Breathe in while the circle moves up, hold your breath, and exhale while the circle moves down.
