Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Northeast Region

Happy Tuesday, TX Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics NE!

My name is Kate Williams, a new resident to DTX from Northwest AR, with a background in nutritional counseling for eating disorders. I have completed a dietetic internship through OU, but, unfortunately, that was ended earlier than planned due to COVID; therefore, I am still striving to pass my exam! I worked as PLD in AR prior to moving to DTX this summer. I am looking for opportunities to shadow, learn, or connect to other RDs or businesses who I could help. I'm well versed in EMR charting, one-on-one MI/CBT based nutritional counseling, meal/menu planning, creating over 22+hrs/ week of nutritional classes based off nutritional science; the physiological harms of EDS; & diet culture; recipe development; & teaching a weekly cooking class. I would love any assistance as I do believe this would extremely benefit me in my studies, as well as further cultivate hard and soft skills in the dietetic environment!

Have a great week!

Kate Williams!
Hi, my name is Kate! I am currently a provisionally licensed dietitian, set for my board in June! I have been working in an inpatient/outpatient setting for eating disorders in OK/AR for a private company but have moved to Dallas, TX! I'm looking for further ways to connect & engage with the dietetic environment in Dallas, as well as current opportunities to grow my experience, utilize my skills, and further contribute to a supportive team dynamic! I would be greatly appreciative of any guidance or insight you may have- thank you : )

ASPEN has released a video series on blended food tube feeding and is asking for assistance with wide dissemination to all health care professionals.
The goal is to help the medical community be more accepting of this feeding substrate and provide quick ‘how-to’ guidance. The hope is that education programs (nursing, dietetics, physician assistants, MD, DO) will incorporate them into classroom instruction and / or use for in-service education.
We would appreciate you sharing with your professional agency/groups and using some or all of the video resources in your professional or teaching capacity. These programs are particularly helpful for dietetic students.
The video links are provided free of charge below. Please reach out with any questions/comments: [email protected] or 334-312-2309

Public Policy Update!
Take Action Now to Ensure Kids Have Access to Healthful Meals
The sustainability of America's school meals are at risk. Earlier this month the FY22 spending bill was passed which excluded provisions to keep crucial child nutrition waivers in place. The bipartisan Support Kids Not Red Tape Act is our last chance to urge Congress to keep these waivers in place to ensure students have access to healthful meals and school foodservice directors have the necessary flexibilities in place to provide meals while grappling with rising costs and supply chain shortages. Access to these meals is more important than ever with the COVID-19 pandemic's disproportionate impact on people with diet-related diseases and underrepresented communities take action today!
Studies continue to show that schools are the healthiest place for kids to eat in the United States. Take action today and tell Congress to ensure kids continue to have access to healthful school meals.

Join us for a webinar featuring Chris Rosenbloom, PhD, RDN, FAND on the benefits of beans for healthy aging.

People who eat beans regularly have a longer life expectancy than people who don’t eat beans regularly. The goodness of beans extends far beyond a substantial life span. They help support a healthy lifestyle by promoting important components, including digestive health, heart health and weight management, to name just a few. A national survey shows that Registered Dietitian Nutritionists know most of these benefits, but most consumers don’t. This webinar will examine the nutrition benefits and evidence-based research around beans and their role in healthy aging. Chris Rosenbloom, PhD, RDN, FAND, will share the importance of beans and their place in the diet, and years of evidence-based research on their nutrition benefits. Applying her expertise in eating well, moving well, and being well for adults in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond, she will share practical strategies on how to share the benefits of beans and encourage consumers to incorporate more beans into meals and snacks every day.
After attending this webinar, the attendee will be able to:
1. Cite at least three evidence-based nutrition and health benefits of canned beans for healthy aging.
2. Discuss how including canned beans as part of a healthy diet may help optimize optimal aging and prevent disease.
3. List at least three consumer-friendly ways to inform individuals about the health benefits of beans. Register here: https://bit.ly/3ueopWO
