It’s Not Just a Phase: Understanding Child and Teen Grief
with Bryna Talamantez, LMFT – Talamantez Therapy

Grief doesn’t have an end date — especially for children and teens. When young people experience the loss of a loved one, that grief becomes part of their story, shaping how they grow and move forward.

In this powerful session, Bryna Talamantez will explore how grief shows up in children and teens, how it impacts their emotional and behavioral development, and what caring adults can do to support them with empathy and understanding.

💚 Join us at the North Texas Mental Health Symposium to learn how we can better walk alongside grieving youth — not to “fix” them, but to help them heal.

Resetting the Default Mode Through Data-Driven Justice
with District Attorney John Creuzot – Dallas County

How can we balance accountability, community safety, and compassion for individuals living with mental illness?

In this insightful session, District Attorney Creuzot will discuss how assessments, data, and proven diversion methods can reshape the way criminal cases involving mentally ill defendants are handled. By using data-driven justice and diversion initiatives, we can connect individuals to treatment and support — reducing recidivism and strengthening our communities.

Our recent Thrive with Pride event was intimate and incredibly meaningful. 💜 Thank you to Brian Kennedy for sharing his story with such honesty and insight—helping us all reflect on how to better support LGBTQ+ mental health.

Did you know LGBTQ+ individuals are nearly twice as likely to experience depression or anxiety compared to their straight and cisgender peers? At NAMI North Texas, we are committed to making mental health support accessible for everyone, no matter who you are or who you love.

A huge thank you to our event sponsors for making this gathering possible - Lighthouse/TPC McKinney, The Lotus Club, and Hands of Hope TX - your support helps us create safe spaces for learning, sharing, and connection. 🌈
