Some kind words from a client.

"Kristy was the perfect midwife. Knowledgeable, patient, reassuring, competent, compassionate, and honest! I'm the kind of person who wants all the information even if it's ugly so I can make my best informed decision. Kristy always gave me all the details on whatever topic was up for decision. The risks and the benefits; everything! It's rare for me to find a medical professional who can be honest, competent, AND pleasant to work with but Kristy is all three. She knows her stuff and i felt completely at ease with her attending my home birth. I love that she keeps up with the latest research instead of using decade old information like some obgyns. I had a traumatic first birth with murky information and so was extra anxious about certain risk factors but Kristy guided me through the whole thing. With her guidance and support I had a quick, unmedicated, and manageable labor this time and gave birth to a healthy baby girl within the comfort of my home!

She also clearly loves babies and kids. I interviewed another midwife and what made me pick Kristy was her full support of me having my toddler present at the birth. He ended up not wanting to be in the room but I loved that she was on board with him being there. The other midwife wasn't too thrilled with that idea.

Kristy was extremely easy to reach any time i had any questions. I was sick at some point during the pregnancy and she fully encouraged me to call her day or night. She gave me so much emotional support throughout the whole ordeal and throughout my entire pregnancy. She's simply amazing.

Use Kristy, you won't regret it!"

Thank you for your kind words, Christine!

The best things in life are worth the wait. Baby Ford had us in the palm of his itty bitty hand while his parents and I waited for labor to start. We now know he was waiting for the biggest birthday because he made his grand entrance on 5/5/22, AKA Cinco de Mayo! Extra special day as it is also International Day of the Midwife and I got to spend Midwife's Day in the best way, greeting a baby.

Parents Kenzie and Alec were an amazing team and it was a joy to watch their family grow by a whopping 10 lbs 1 oz! Congratulations, Kenzie and Alec! Welcome, Ford! The world is sweeter with you in it.

It's the first day of Mental Health Awareness Month and also World Laughter Day!

Did you know laughter is good for your health? In addition to boosting your mood and lowering your stress, laughing decreases pain, boosts your immunity, prevents heart disease, and (my obvious favorite) increases your chance of getting pregnant!

What's your favorite joke/comedy? Show some love and share your favorite way to laugh!

"When will my baby come?"
"What will my birth be like?"

There is so much uncertainty around pregnancy and birth (and with parenting for that matter). Being able to let go of expectations and embrace uncertainty about a major life event can be a challenge. But it's also a great life lesson - being able to go with the flow, be in the moment, adapt, and knowing that you can handle whatever comes your way is the first step in successful parenting. Embrace the uncertainty and trust that life is taking you exactly where you need to be.

Reading is a superpower. Reading provides you with increased cognitive function, greater empathy, improves your sleep, and decreases stress levels and blood pressure. Whether you read for fun or for education, you are improving your life every time you pick up a book.

Reading to your children has benefits for both of you - listening to stories improves your child's language, empathy towards others, attention span, vocabulary, increases bonding, and more! And those benefits begin at birth.

Some of my favorite memories of motherhood revolve around books and stories I've shared with my children. Do you have a favorite book you've read yourself, or read with your child?

Giving birth may be one of the toughest things you will ever do, but you are more than capable.

It's not uncommon for families to worry about the pain of childbirth. We have been taught that giving birth is a terrible experience, that it's painful and scary. Pain is an alert system for our body to tell us when something is wrong, so of course our impulse is to avoid it!

But physiological birth isn't like that. It's hard work; it takes focus and determination and strength. You can work with your body, the contractions coming and going and giving you breathing space and rest in between. It doesn't have to be frightening or something you try to survive - it can be an opportunity to see how strong you are, and the amazing things your body can do.

I won't tell you labor will be easy. But I will remind you that you can do it - you have everything you need within yourself.

Midwife Mania! This morning Baylor University Medical Center hosted midwives from around the metroplex for fellowship, team building, and to discuss ways we can offer families the best support and care, whether at home, birth center, or hospital.

I always love and appreciate the opportunity to spend time with other family centered care providers. This work that we do is so special and unique, serving families in the making of some of their best memories.

Well, we made it! New year, new opportunities, new intentions.

As Anne Dillard said, "How we live our days is how we live our lives." This year, I want to really think about the little moments, the little beats of our lives. I know New Years is a time where people think big picture - a chance to make a resolution and big plan for the whole year, but I'm skipping that. I'm thinking about my days. I'm thinking about all the little choices we make and our smallest preferences because those are the things that make our lives.

Happy New Year, and - and I mean this from the very bottom of my heart - have a wonderful day.

I absolutely love my postpartum home visits, where mom and baby are unwinding in their own space. There's no rushing to get ready or dealing with the car seat, just a relaxed day visiting with the midwife. And little Miss Catalina is a pro at relaxing!
