The Buckner Family Hope Center in West Dallas hosted its annual Christmas Market. It was such a joy to celebrate in person and families enjoyed the children’s activities and hot chocolate and dessert bar. These families earned this Christmas Market opportunity from completing both adult and youth classes/programs. Merry Christmas to all!

Buckner Dallas Fort Worth's mission is to follow the example of Jesus by serving vulnerable children and families. Dr. Robert Cooke “Father” Buckner founded Buckner Orphans Home in 1879 in Dallas after seeing the needs of hurting and orphaned children in post-Civil War Texas.

In the first years, Buckner Orphans Home was filled with children left parentless due to disease and hardship. It was Father Buckner’s deep compassion for the hopeless and helpless that served as the driving force behind his ministry. He constantly looked for innovative ways to deliver social ministries, including those to elders, combining his theological beliefs with a progressive social conscience.

If you are feeling at a loss for words after today's tragedy in Uvalde, Texas, then we ask you to take a moment and pray along with us, "Lord, we pray for those who have been affected by the atrocity in Uvalde. We pray you will comfort the broken and walk with all those hurting. We ask that you give wisdom to all the doctors, nurses, counselors, school staff, and anyone else treating the victims of this horrible crime."

Amen

Yesterday was Faith and Family day at the Texas Rangers! In attendance, we had foster and adoptive families from Buckner Longview and Buckner Dallas Fort Worth, families from all three of our Dallas Family Hope Centers, families from Longview Family Pathways and Project HOPES, and seniors from Ventana by Buckner and Buckner Westminster Place.

Ventana by Buckner member Ted Reynolds had the honor of throwing out the first pitch. Mr. Reynolds, who is 91 years young, is from Aledo, Texas, where he played on the first football team the high school ever had. He also played at TCU from 1950 to 1952. Mr. Reynolds retired after a career in business in Illinois, where he started a feed manufacturing company.

General information

Foster care and adoption:
Buckner provides the training and resources needed to become a family to a child for a season through foster care or a forever family through domestic or intercountry adoption. Children in these programs are most often referred through the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services due to experiencing abuse, neglect or abandonment. We also respond to mothers experiencing an unplanned pregnancy with counseling and support. Call 833-724-2777 for more information about how you can change the life of a child.

Campus homes at Buckner Children's Home:
Buckner Children's Home provides campus foster homes for children. Foster families live in Buckner-owned cottages, providing a consistent home environment for children who are in the state's custody and may have been abused, neglected or abandoned.

Buckner Family Pathways:
We provide single-parent families the opportunity to live in a safe, secure environment while completing their educational or vocational goals and learning the skills they need to be self-sufficient. Families are provided support through access to affordable housing, financial assistance, counseling, spiritual growth and case management services. Want to know more? Call 214-328-3141 for more information.

NextStep:
NextStep is a supervised independent living program for young women transitioning out of foster care or who have been referred by other partner organizations.
