GOOD NEWS! CONGRESS JUST ADVANCED THE GIVE KIDS A CHANCE ACT, INCLUDING CREATING HOPE PRV REAUTHORIZATION ACT AND THE INNOVATIONS IN PEDIATRIC DRUGS ACT yesterday 9/18/2024!
With a unanimous bipartisan vote of 43-0, the U.S. House of Representatives Energy & Commerce Committee just passed the Give Kids a Chance Act, HR 3433, a pediatric drug development bill that includes: -- the Give Kids a Chance Act providing for combination therapies of new cancer drugs for kids -- the Creating Hope Reauthorization Act (PRV reauthorization) for 5 years -- the Innovations in Pediatric Drugs Act with enforcement mechanisms to ensure companies complete their required pediatric studies and with additional funding for pediatric studies at the NIH -- the RARE Act preserving the Orphan Drug Act.

Last week, we were delighted to hear from Dr. Michelle Le Beau, Chief Science Officer at CPRIT, who wanted to share with us that CPRIT has approved 11 awards garnering $26.3 million that are focused on childhood and adolescent cancers. Meaning, CPRIT’s commitment to pediatric cancers has jumped from 12% to 13% of their entire portfolio!

"How did this happen? In my view, it is the result of the discussions at the 2022 Researchers RoundUp conference," she writes. "We’re delighted with this outcome, and believe that The Carson Leslie Foundation shares in this success. We look forward to sharing the impact of this work with you in the future."
