What is aspirating?
Aspirating simply means pulling back on the plunger of the syringe.

Why is it important?
Positive aspiration indicates a blood vessel has been crossed and this specific area should NOT be injected. If this occurs, it is important to acknowledge to help prevent a vascular occlusion.
-
Why do we aspirate?
In high risk areas (cheeks, chin, jawline, nose, nasolabial folds) aspirating reassures the provider that the tip of the needle is not in a blood vessel, meaning that a vascular occlusion is likely to occur.

After safety assessment, aesthetic providers can safely move the needle to another area to continue treatment.
