Dear Survivors:

Your true purpose… 💛

Your body is not the enemy, diet culture is. When you're feeling angry at your body, try to avoid taking all your anger out on yourself. Make a list and see how many other ways you can communicate your anger. We’ll get you started! Write in a journal, talk to a friend, go for a walk, hold ice cubes until they melt, scream into a pillow—now it’s your turn! Drop some ideas in the comments below.

[Graphic Description] A layered pattern of circles sits on a teal background. Their colors are lime green, orange, and a pale, mossy green. In white text in the middle of the mossy green circle, the text reads, "Don't take your anger out on your body." The handle sits in the lower right-hand corner.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a serious mental health condition that can occur when a person witnesses or experiences a highly distressing event. PTSD can cause symptoms such as difficulty sleeping, flashbacks to the traumatizing event, excessive sweating and rapid heartbeat, guilt or shame, negative self-beliefs, and more.

People who have experienced trauma can have a hard time processing and regulating their emotions, which can lead to using disordered eating habits—like bingeing, purging, or restricting—to alleviate their distress.

If you have PTSD and are experiencing an eating disorder, you can still recover. At Veritas Collaborative, we understand that co-occurring conditions like PTSD must be treated alongside the eating disorder. Help is available. Call us today at 855-875-5812.

Eating disorders are so all-consuming that they can morph your values and your feelings. At times it can become difficult to differentiate between what's you and what's your ED.

Perhaps you used to pride yourself on your honesty, and now your eating disorder pushes you to lie to keep it hidden from others. Or maybe you used to love running for the joy and energy it brought you, and now it's solely "make up" for the calories you consumed.

There is hope for change. You do not have to let your eating disorder run your life. You can find yourself again. 😊

Living authentically allows us a freedom we can’t access when we aren’t true to ourselves about who we are. Try this week to access your authentic self, and see what freedom it grants you to say no to things you don’t like and yes to things you do.
