The Nephrology Fellowship Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center provides comprehensive training

Since its inception in 1956, the program has maintained an extraordinary history of training individuals that become leaders in the field of nephrology. The strength of our program is derived from two pillars:
1) A tremendous breadth of clinical experience.
2) A strong faculty body with a tradition of excellence in nephrology research.

1️⃣ A nationally renowned safety-net hospital, plus a VA plus a cutting-edge referral hospital.
🏥Parkland Memorial Hospital:
⭐️ 862 bed facility completed in 2015, with the latest in informational technology focused on indigent patient care.
⭐️ 1st established in 1894.
⭐️ One of the largest public hospital systems in the country, averaging >1M patient visits/yr.
⭐️ It was the first Level I trauma center in Texas.
⭐️ The place for JFK’s emergency care in 1963.
⭐️ Is among the largest civilian burn units in the nation including the site of the development of the Parkland Burn Formula.
🏥Clements University Hospital:
⭐️Newly constructed facility in 2014, with 460 beds and expansion to 750 beds in 2021.
⭐️Tertiary referral center that provides training in critical care nephrology with extensive exposure to cardiothoracic surgery cases, ECMO, VADs & organ transplantation.
🏥Dallas VA Medical Center:
⭐️ Renovated in 2014 and has 289 acute care beds with one of the largest VA dialysis units in the country.

Last day of the month and last Profile. Andrea Venable, PhD, is a postdoctoral research fellow. She is working with
Sarah Huen, M.D., PhD, on how metabolic adaptation promotes survival during sepsis and how the kidneys contribute to systemic metabolism during inflammation.
Fellow Profile: Litty Thomas, M.D. She is a first year fellow. Selected the field of Nephrology for her deep-rooted interest in patient care and building long-lasting personal relationships.
Fellow Profile: Taylor Schaubschlager, D.O. She is currently our chief fellow. The past three Nephrology Fellow Chiefs have been women. She enjoys serving and caring for a wide demographic of patients.
Fellow Profile: Meredith McAdams, M.D. She is currently on her second year of T-32 research and is pursuing her Master's Degree in Clinical Sciences.
Fellow Profile: Stefanie Herrera, M.D. Her interest in Nephrology grew as she recognized the influence the renal system has on the entirety of the organism; the complex pathophysiology that correlates multiple organs at once.

We are proud to announce another 100% pass rate year for the ABIM Nephrology Boards from our recently graduated class of 2019. No surprise there.... especially since our Program Director took his re-certification exam at the same time and scored a perfect 800!!! Yep, the members of UTSW Nephrology really bring out the best in each other."

Since July the fellows have been busy studying and team building. We have done yoga, played Top Golf, and did the Night Nation Run.
Over the weekend we welcomed our new fellows and their families with a cookout and pool party. Thank you to the faculty and staff for warm welcome and to Dr. Hedayati for hosting.
Our new fellows, chief fellow, transplant fellow, and APP did a team building escape room and escaped in time!
Program Director, Kamal Sambandam, M.D. was given a shirt from the graduating fellows with anti- GBM disease on it. They asked him to wear it before their last day. He is pictured with two graduating fellows and two first year fellows.
Last week we celebrated our five Clinical Fellows and one Transplant Nephrology Fellow with a graduation ceremony. We are proud to have be UT Southwestern Nephrology Fellowship Graduates. We know you will be great Nephrologists and we wish you the best in your future endeavors

Extremely proud of our fellows and Internal Medical residents who presented Nephrology clinical research and case study’s at the 4th annual Seldin Research Symposium today.
Meredith McAdam's, M.D. has accepted the position of Chief Nephrology Fellow for the 2019-2020 academic year. She will be a wonderful advocate for her co-fellows and a great representative for the program.
Our fellows have worked extremely hard so far this year. Our Program Director, Kamal Sambandam, M.D. hosted a celebratory event in their honor.
