Ever wonder how women can go into fibroid removal surgery thinking they have 5-6 fibroids and end up having 14-16 removed?

Imaging can make all the difference. Ultrasound is the first and most common method for detecting fibroids. Unfortunately, not all fibroids are visible on ultrasound. CT scan is a quick imaging option, but not always a preferred diagnostic tool for fibroids. The most detailed diagnostic tool is a pelvic MRI. It provides specific information regarding size, number and location by capturing cross-section images. It can also assist in distinguishing fibroids and adenomyosis.

One study showed 28% of women who planned their treatment based on ultrasound changed their approach after having an MRI. Fibroid Institute offers pre-surgical UFE to lessen blood loss and shrink fibroids for an easier surgical removal. Give us a call for a second opinion on your fibroid treatment plan.
