Our paper “Robotic Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy and Breast Reconstruction with Profunda Artery Perforator Flaps” was just published in

The manuscript highlights are early series of breast reconstruction using this new technique. We continue to strive to advance the field and increase the available options for our patients. One of our main goals is to reduce morbidity and our early data with the single port robotic ni**le sparing mastectomy and subsequent breast reconstruction has accomplished this with low complication rates and the potential for maintenance of sensation. Doing PAP flaps through this small incision in the axilla is another step forward to provide immediate natural breast reconstruction

We present our patient treated with stacked PAPs and implant based reconstruction following recurrent cancer and radiation.

We take care of a lot of patients that have undergone breast reconstruction at other facilities. This patient had complex history involving left mastectomy and reconstruction with a DIEP flap. Unfortunately, she had a recurrence and was treated with resection and radiation.

She presented to our practice with significant asymmetry, a left contracted implant, and minimal options for reconstructive donor sites. Given she is very thin and the DIEP flap was already utilized we had to explore alternative options. She could have undergone a latissimus flap, but she was worried about this impacting her life and athletic activities that she enjoys.

We treated her with stacked PAP flaps with a temporary tissue expander. We used this to stretch the PAP skin and later returned to place an implant and undergo ni**le reconstruction. We present her before and after photos.

We had the privilege of hosting two visitors from the National Cancer Center in Gliwice, Poland (Jakub Opyrchal MD, PhD and Daniel Bula MD, PhD). Over a three day course we were able to show them eight autologous breast reconstructions with our most common flap choices (DIEP flaps, PAP flaps, and LAP flaps). They spent an additional day observing breast reconstruction revisions were we optimize the aesthetic outcomes.

Dr. Haddock had the privilege to spend the weekend with friends in LA at the LA Symposium in Plastic Surgery. He gave presentations on alternative flaps and managing the aesthetics of the donor site.

Our patient underwent bilateral mastectomies followed by staged tissue expanders and later PAP flap breast reconstruction. She subsequently underwent ni**le reconstruction and fat grafting. Her before and after photos are shown. We have since modified our approach to the thigh incision in effort to avoid visibility of the scar at the side of the buttock.

Our patient describes her experience with a direct to implant (DTI) reconstruction. We had initially discussed expanders and implants but she had a strong desire to have implants. Fortunately her mastectomy allowed this and in the video she describes waking up and looking like she did before.

She described Dr. Haddock as no nonsense and no sugar coating, but also that she had some normal human conversation with him and felt like she knew him forever. She was able to ask as many questions as needed and was treated in a way that she felt there were no dumb questions.

It was a privilege to be invited as a visiting professor for the Department of General Surgery at the University of Minnesota. I was able to speak on breast reconstruction and surgical expertise as well as spend a few hours with the Plastic Surgery residents reviewing cases and teaching. It was a pleasure to spend time with our former graduate, and friend, . Also great to make new friends with his colleagues.

Dr. Haddock was the invited guest speaker at the NESPS meeting this past weekend. He spoke on breast reconstruction with three separate talks (Aesthetics of Breast Reconstruction, Building a Comprehensive Microsurgery Breast Reconstruction Program, and Efficiency in the Operating Room). Always great to spend time with colleagues and friends discussing cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery.

Our patient describes her journey with a BRCA1 diagnosis. She elected to proceed with bilateral prophylactic mastectomies and reconstruction with DIEP flaps. She states that the online before and after photos as well as the reviews are what made her chose to come to Dr. Haddock from Shreveport, LA.

She comments that she is very happy with her result. Her scar is in her bikini area and covers easily with underwear so it is not visible. Her pain levels were "great," and she only required pain medications for three days.
