🍒 🫐 Berries and Diabetes 🫐 🍒
Berries are low-glycemic fruits, which means they have less of an effect on blood sugar levels. Which is important when choosing snacks! If you are choosing a snack on the go, berries are a better choice than cut melon which are high in glycemic index!
Berries also contain fiber and antioxidants, which can lower blood sugar and inflammation. Blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries are all low in glycemic index, with blueberries having a glycemic index (GI) of 53! (You can google any fruit to find out if it is high, low or moderate GI!)
As always, you can try pairing fruit with protein to prevent blood-sugar spikes. For example, you can spread peanut butter on apple slices or eat berries with yogurt to help that blood sugar stay within normal limits.
Happy snacking! 🍓🫐🍒
