Being diagnosed with cancer in your 20s or 30s can be complicated and lonely, which is why the Young Adult Cancer Support (YACS) Program was formed at UTSW Simmons Cancer Center – to provide a place of connection and community for people of similar age who are going through the same things.

The group meets monthly, both in person and virtually, and is a safe space for sharing, encouraging, or just listening. Hear from a few YACS members about what the program means to them – and meet Tia, the Cancer Center’s facility dog who has become the group's mascot.

Lung cancer is more successfully treated if it’s detected early. Low-dose CT lung screening helps find lung cancer in people at higher risk for developing it, but the latest report shows only about 11% of eligible Texans have received screening. Congratulations to the 2025 ACS DREAM interns on their successful completion of our 10-week summer program, funded by the American Cancer Society (ACS). Through mentorship and hands-on experience, this cohort has enhanced their scientific knowledge, advanced their cancer research skills, and gained valuable professional experience. Thank you to everyone who volunteered and joined us at our Families Connected Back-to-School Event, made possible by the Dwight Powell Children and Family Support Program. It was a joyful morning filled with fun activities, including a photo booth, a sticker station, keychain crafting, and a special visit from Callie, our pet therapy dog. Every child went home with a backpack filled with school supplies, ready to start the school year off strong!
