My journey into mental health has been anything but straightforward, and that’s what makes it so meaningful to me. The title of my book, *Dare to Be,* truly captures my life path—where you start is not necessarily where you'll end up. For a long time, I worked in corporate finance, a field I excelled in for 17 years. It was lucrative, and I felt competent in it, but something inside me was always searching for more. I had this deep, unfulfilled sense that I wasn’t quite aligned with my true purpose.
Eventually, I came to realize that life has a way of guiding us, sometimes subtly, sometimes dramatically. It’s as though we’re constantly being pulled toward our purpose if we’re open to it. Today, as a Licensed Professional Counselor, I see how every twist and turn led me here—to a profession that allows me to help people discover and embrace their own paths. I am continuously learning, not just as a professional but as a person, and I let God take me wherever He sees fit, trusting that there is always more to uncover and share.
Looking back, I now see how the experiences I had in finance laid a foundation for my work today. Running my own practice for almost a decade has required every bit of that financial knowledge, and my time in corporate life gave me the resilience and insight to weather the challenges that come with business ownership. So, even if my “passion” wasn’t finance, the season I spent there wasn’t wasted. It equipped me for what was to come.
To anyone questioning where they are right now, know that even if your current situation doesn’t feel like the end destination, it’s a vital step in your journey. Each phase serves its purpose, and as you keep going, the pieces come together. Trust that you’re being prepared for what’s next. Let your path unfold naturally, and when you surrender to the journey, you allow God to guide you in ways you might never have imagined.
