"Necessity is the Mother of Invention....and Miracles"

“Paul Molloy was a Senate Committee staff member from 1967 to 1972. He had a drinking problem. Refusing treatment, his wife had Paul committed, and divorced him. He ended up homeless, living on the streets and begging for money.

In 1975, he moved into a county-run sober living halfway house. When he and his roommates found out that their "safe place" was losing its funding, they feared “Without each other's support, they would drink again.”

They had a brilliant idea: "Guys, why don't we take over the lease?" So they did. And born on that day, was the first ever Oxford House. 48 years later, there are over 3300 Oxford Houses across the U.S. and other countries, including England, Ghana, Australia and Canada.

The model offers a staggering success rate, which baffled experts, spawning many studies as to how and why it works so well.

I was fortunate to have been sent, as a delegate to the first ever Oxford House World Convention in Washington D.C., 1999 and again in 2000, Kansas City.

Mr. Molloy passed in 2022, survived by his wife Jan, whom he remarried in 1988. Paul remained sober for 47 years. He left behind a Legacy, which in part includes, over a quarter million Oxford House Alumni. Thank You, Paul”
