👋 July is Melasma Awareness Month 🌞 You might have heard this term before, but let's break it down in simple words!
Melasma is a skin condition that affects many people, especially women, but men can be affected too. Melasma occurs when dark patches or spots appear on your skin, usually on your face. Imagine having uneven tan spots that don't go away even if you try to wash or scrub them off. That's melasma!
Now, why does it happen? 🤔 Well, there are a few factors at play. Sun exposure is a big one! ☀️ When your skin gets too much sun or heat, it can trigger melasma. Hormones can also play a role, like during pregnancy or when taking birth control pills. Sometimes, it can even be related to certain medications or your genes.
The good news is that melasma isn't harmful BUT it can be a bit frustrating because those dark patches can affect your self-confidence. 🙁
So, what can you do about it? First things first, protect your skin from the sun! 🌴 Sunscreen is your best friend. Apply it generously and regularly, even on cloudy days. Wearing a wide-brimmed hat and using a parasol can also help shield your face from those UV rays. Keep your skin cool with an SPF mist too!
