If you feel like you're always bracing for something — even when nothing is wrong — your nervous system might be stuck in a loop it can't get out of.

Chronic stress, poor sleep, mouth breathing, clenching, and unresolved oral inflammation can all keep your body in a low-grade fight-or-flight state. Not dramatically. Just... constantly.

And when your nervous system never fully downregulates, everything else suffers. Your hormones. Your digestion. Your energy. Your ability to actually rest.

This is one of the things we talked about at the IABDM conference last month — and one of the things we're seeing more and more in our patients at The Whole Tooth.

The mouth is deeply connected to the nervous system. The way you breathe, the way you hold tension in your jaw, the state of your oral tissues — all of it sends signals.

If you've been told your labs are normal but you still don't feel well, this might be worth exploring.

More this week on what we're learning and how it connects to your care.

Most dental offices hand you a cleaning and send you home.

At The Whole Tooth, your first visit is a 90-minute diagnostic experience designed to look at your mouth as part of your whole body.

We call it the New Patient Experience. It's where everything begins.

Dr. Genz and her team will look at your airway, your gum health, your existing dental materials, and key biomarkers that most dentists never think to check. Then, about two weeks later, you'll come back for a dedicated consultation where she walks you through exactly what she found and what it means for your health.

No rushed appointments. No isolated cleanings. Just a complete picture, finally.

If you've been doing everything right but still feel inflamed, tired, foggy, or hormonally off, your mouth might be the missing link.

Last month, our hygienist Gina and I drove to Austin for the International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine conference.

We came home with more ideas than we can probably implement in a single year.

Here's what we were talking about:

→ Why so many people's nervous systems are running on empty
→ The role of airway function in chronic fatigue and poor sleep
→ Heavy metals, detoxification, and biological compatibility in dental materials
→ Red light therapy and mitochondrial health
→ Inflammation — where it starts, and why the mouth is often the first place to look

Next week I want to go deeper on each of these. Because if you've been doing everything right and still feel inflamed, exhausted, or foggy — there may be something your dentist hasn't told you yet.

Save this post. More coming.

Connecting dots and reconnecting what modern healthcare often separates through intention, conversation, and technology.

What if the reason you still feel inflamed, exhausted, or hormonally off has nothing to do with what you're eating or how hard you're working on your health?

On June 13, I'll be joining Dr. Josh Huse, DC at Huse Health and Wellbeing for a Lunch + Learn that could genuinely change the way you think about healing.

Dr. Huse runs the only NMT-integrated health science clinic in the DFW area. NMT (NeuroModulation Technique, also known as the Feinberg Method) is a form of informational medicine that works by correcting faults in your body's internal regulatory systems, the same systems responsible for immune response, hormonal balance, inflammation, and pain. When those systems are confused or blocked, the body simply cannot heal the way it was designed to. NMT helps restore that communication.

And here's where biological dentistry comes in.

Your mouth is one of the most common sources of that exact breakdown. Oral inflammation, airway dysfunction, heavy metals in dental materials, and chronic low-grade infection can all quietly disrupt the very systems Dr. Huse works to restore. Biological dentistry isn't separate from what he does. It completes it.

Together, we're talking about a whole-body cycle of care that most people have never had access to in one room.

We'll cover:
- How oral inflammation drives systemic symptoms
- Airway health and its role in nervous system stress
- What the Feinberg Method addresses and how it works
- Why biological dentistry is the missing link in root-cause healing

Relaxed. Conversational. Genuinely worth your afternoon.

Two and a half days of care in El Valle, Dominican Republic reminded me why I practice the way I do.

Dentistry doesn't change someone's life simply because a procedure was completed.

It changes lives when people feel cared for, listened to, and restored in a way that improves how they function and move through the world every day.

That's what we try to bring to every patient at The Whole Tooth.

Not just cleaned teeth. A person who leaves feeling a little more whole.

If you've been looking for that kind of care, we'd love to meet you.

If you're a woman who has done everything right for your health and still can't figure out why you feel off, you are not imagining it. And you are not alone.

Chronic inflammation, hormonal imbalance, brain fog, and fatigue are often traced back to gut health, sleep, and stress. But there's one root cause that almost never gets examined: your oral health.

The mouth is the missing link in whole-body wellness.

Hidden oral bacteria don't stay in your mouth. They enter your bloodstream, drive systemic inflammation, disrupt your gut microbiome, and quietly tax your immune system, often for years before anyone connects the dots.

At The Whole Tooth, we look at your mouth the way functional medicine looks at your body: as a system, not a set of isolated symptoms. Because real root-cause healing has to include what's happening above the neck.

If you've been searching for the missing piece, this might be it.

Save this post and follow along. We're just getting started.

Maycember has a way of revealing what we’ve been carrying. The full calendars, the travel, the school endings, the decisions, the delayed exhale.

In the practice, we see this show up in the body too. Clenching. Airway stress. Inflammation. Fatigue. Patients who are doing so many “right” things and still don’t feel well.

This week’s Field Notes are a softer look at all of it. Life, dentistry, travel, motherhood, and the mouth-body connection.
