David E. isn’t looking for any credit or praise, although he certainly deserves some. But we’ll get to that. Instead, David gives abundant praise and credit to Dr. Lam and his team of vascular experts at Lam Vascular & Associates for saving his toe and his foot from amputation.
See, David is a full-time caregiver to his beloved sister Bernice, who was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in early 2020. The two, both in their 70s, live together in North Dallas. David is an awarded sales manager in the precious jewels department at Neiman Marcus, and Bernice is retired from a highly successful career as a realtor with Ebby Halliday.
“My sister is a wonderful human being and has looked after me all my life, so it is my great honor to be able to care for her in this season,” said David, who is furloughed from his employer at this time so he can focus on the care of his sister. “I’m very blessed that my company is so supportive and understanding of my situation.”
David has been in good health all his life, so it came as a surprise when a simple stubbed toe just wouldn’t heal properly. David saw a podiatrist about it, who quickly discovered virtually no blood flow going into David’s lower leg. He referred David to Dr. Lam.
“You know, in all my years of living, I have always been led in the right direction,” said David. “And I cannot even express how grateful I am for being led to Dr. Lam.” After diagnostic testing, Dr. Lam surmised that David had 100% blockage to his lower leg and recommended angioplasty and stenting to restore blood flow so that his wound could heal.
Dr. Lam took care of David’s vascular issue, of course. But even more notable to David were the incredible care and compassion shown to him and to his sister.
See, David had explained to Dr. Lam at his first appointment that, as his sister’s sole caregiver, he needed to be healthy and strong in order to continue caring for her. “He told me not to worry, that he would make sure I was able to take care of my sister,” David said. “He always asked about her and showed the same level of compassion and caring to my sister as he did to me.”
On surgery day, Dr. Lam remembered that David would be on his own since Bernice wasn’t well enough to accompany him or help with his post-op care. “He arranged rides to and from the hospital for me, got me out of there in time to be home before my sister’s home health assistant left and even asked me what kind of food I would like.”
That David’s health condition presented itself during COVID was something he may have had some concern about initially. “But knowing I would be right in Dr. Lam’s own private clinic from start to finish and observing all the safety protocols they have in place took any anxiety I felt completely away,” said David. “In this day and age, when seniors can sometimes get backburner treatment, I was truly amazed at the level of care I received at Lam Vascular & Associates. I know Dr. Lam has hundreds of patients, but I sincerely felt like I was the only one. If you choose Dr. Lam, he is the right doctor.”

Most of us will experience foot issues at some point in our lives. But take note of these common symptoms of PAD beyond foot pain.
When Ken Taylor’s friend told him a joke about getting old, it really hit home. “He said, ‘You know how to tell you’re getting old? When you know more doctors than regular people!’” Ken gave it some thought and realized that seemed to be true for him!
From open heart surgery to a series of surgeries (four, to be exact) to address an artery blockage in his leg, Ken had spent a good deal of time visiting doctors and hospitals over the last few years.
Ken was losing hope as he battled severe leg pain in spite of multiple surgeries to address it. “My cardiologist finally ran a tube from my groin all the way down to my ankle and told me if that didn’t fix it, I’d have to consider amputation,” he said.
Ken and his wife Paulette are people of faith and, in spite of his setbacks, they desperately held on to hope that there was a solution out there somewhere. They, their family and church continually prayed for answers. When a friend happened to mention knowing someone who almost lost his leg but was doing well after seeing Dr. Lam at Lam Vascular & Associates, Ken wasted no time getting in touch.
Within a week, Ken and Paulette were sitting in Dr. Lam’s office waiting to go over all the diagnostic tests he had just performed on Ken. “When he came into the exam room, I asked him, ‘Well Dr. Lam, can you help me?’ and do you know what he said? He said, “No. But I can fix you.’”
The Taylors were so relieved. Dr. Lam diagnosed Ken with peripheral artery disease (PAD) and laid out an aggressive treatment plan in the hopes of saving his leg.
Ken’s treatment and ultimate recovery was not an easy road. The tube placed in his leg by the other surgeon had caused a brutal staph infection that took significant time and effort to eradicate. Dr. Lam surgically removed the tube in a procedure that took more than six hours. “He got in there and found that the infected tube had been put straight through my calf muscle so he had to rebuild a new calf muscle from scratch,” said Ken.
As a diabetic for more than 25 years, he knew the recovery would not be easy. But Ken spent 7 ½ long WEEKS in the hospital. “My leg looked like a road map and at one point, I had four wound vac machines hooked up to it,” he chuckled.
But little by little, day by day, they saw improvement. And the day Ken was able to briskly walk 15 laps around the physical therapy track in record time, he knew he was going to be okay.
When Ken finally went for his final follow-up appointment with Dr. Lam, it was a joyful occasion for all. “I really thought he was going to do a dance in the exam room with me,” said Ken. “He was so happy with my progress and even admitted that at one point, he didn’t know if I’d still have that leg at the end of it all. But I believed in him. He’s truly the finest and most caring doctor I have ever known…and I’ve known a lot of doctors!”
Today, Ken is back to mowing and edging his own lawn and looks forward to putting out the American flags with his Masonic Lodge buddies this Memorial Day weekend. The Taylors will be married 54 years this coming January and Ken credits much of his recovery to the love and support of his wife. “When I was in the hospital, do you know she came to see me every cotton-pickin day and even spent some nights with me too?” marveled Ken.
If Ken could sum up his experience in one word it would be grateful. He is grateful for his life, his wife, his leg, his health, and so very grateful to have met Dr. Lam.

Curious if you can decrease your risk of developing PAD naturally? Great news- you can! Learn how: https://lamvascular.com/is-it-possible-to-reverse-peripheral-artery-disease-naturally/
Is PAD Reversible? In many cases, yes. There are many treatment options for Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) and those treatments are improving every day.
Dr. Lam doesn’t just save legs; he saves lives. Cindy Blakely, lifetime Mesquite, Texas resident, can attest to this. Here’s her story.
In October of 2016, Cindy started to experience significant pain in her left hip. With no real ideas about what was causing the debilitating pain that was robbing Cindy of her ability to walk, her primary care physician recommended in-house rehabilitation.
During this time, Cindy accidentally rolled over her own foot with her wheelchair. Painful, yes; but ultimately, the mishap might have saved her life.
That injury landed Cindy in the emergency room, where she was finally diagnosed with Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), a limb-threatening circulatory condition where narrowed blood vessels reduce blood flow to the limbs.
“Dr. Lam was on the team who handled my diagnosis and ultimately the amputation of my left leg,” said Cindy. “I lost a leg, but Dr. Lam literally saved my life. I was dying before he got there, and I am so grateful that he was there and had the knowledge and experience to help me, not only to save my other leg but to save my life.”
Cindy is a mother of two grown children and a proud grandmother to two young boys. She still battles some health issues but regularly visits Dr. Lam to keep her PAD under control. “He is a godsend,” she said. “If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t be alive. When issues come up, Dr. Lam and his wonderful staff help me resolve them so I can keep going and living my life.”
Today, Cindy focuses on her health more than ever. She eats a healthy diet, stays active and spends time with the people she loves. “I appreciate all that Dr. Lam and his staff have done for me,” she said. “I would never move away or change doctors. Because of Dr. Lam, I am alive and able to enjoy what’s left of my life.”
