🚨Period nerd alert!
The menstrual cycle is where it’s at!
📈Hormones CYCLE! They’re never the same throughout your month. Without this fluctuation, periods don’t happen!
🤔Why the fluctuations?? Your brain and your ovaries have to communicate to get an egg ready to go! FSH from the brain talks to the o***y and that’s where estradiol comes into the picture. Got enough estrogen and an egg ready??? Now the brain makes leutinizing hormone (LH). Ever done an ovulation predictor kit on your urine? Yep! That’s LH in your urine signaling the o***y to ovulate. Once that happens, progesterone enters the room!
If you get pregnant, the period doesn’t come and hormones rise. If you don’t get pregnant, hormones fall and the period comes. Then, start it all over again.
⛰️The difference between these regular cycles of your 20s and 30s and perimenopause?? Those hormone fluctuations are no longer predictable rounded humps like you see in the picture. They are often mountains and valleys and your body isn’t used to that!
📣The result of this erratic fluctuations: 🩸Uterus: cycle irregularity, heavier cycles, fibroids grow, adenomyosis, polyps, uterus cancer risk.
🧠Brain: anxiety, depression, migraines, hot flashes (yes, they come from the brain), SLEEP disturbance, brain fog)
⚖️Weight gain
💦Genitals: pain w s*x, urinary issues
🔥Musculoskeletal aches and pains
🌵Skin and hair changes
❤️Palpitations..and so much more!

YOU NAME IT! It’s all possible. Put all those together and add in some stress, fatigue and just plain LIFE and we get low libido!

👂Listen to your symptoms! Labs might not catch what’s going on and still having your period doesn’t mean perimenopause isn’t affecting you!! 🫶🏻

🚨Period nerd alert:

When patients tell me where they are in their menstrual cycle, it changes everything.
Your symptoms, your mood, your energy, your pain patterns, even your s*xual health — all shift throughout the cycle.

This is why I love the menstrual cycle: it’s one of the most powerful diagnostic tools in perimenopause, menopause, vulvovaginal care, and beyond.

Your period is information.
And I’m here to help you interpret.

2002: The Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) published the first arm of its trial. BUT there was a press conference held stating these exact fears well before the paper was in the journal for all to see the data. The precedent was set! The public knew this before we had the actual paper. S #*t you not!!! 🤬

🤓This trial was done to see if estrogen PREVENTS heart disease in menopausal women

🚨Did estrogen cause heart disease and heart attacks? Well, WHI has OLDER patients. Less than 15% were under age 55. Average age? 63!!!

💡Answer: Estrogen alone (no progestin) had less heart disease than a placebo taker! And, if you start it before age 60 or

📞 15 minutes on hold…
🎉 Drug was covered the whole time!
🤯 Apparently, all I had to do was wait on hold so they could “approve” it.

Dear insurance companies: my patients deserve better. My time is valuable. Their care shouldn’t hinge on bureaucracy.
