Meet Kay Goffa. Homewatch Caregivers (HWCG) is pleased to announce Kay has been selected as its “Caregiver of the Month.”

Although Kay is one of HWCG’s newest caregiver (she joined the company in April 2020), she has made an impressionable and lasting impact on every client she cares for. Kay is a versatile caregiver who has been instrumental in making a difference with different types of clients with different chronic conditions … from those needing basic companionship to those who are quadriplegic and in need of around-the-clock full bed care. She always goes the extra mile in her work and is always looking for ways to go above and beyond her call of duty.

For example, Kay went out of her way to help a client move into a new home. She deep cleaned appliances and even scrubbed the client’s floor so thoroughly that the client thought he had new floors put in. Every client assigned to Kay has given us wonderful feedback about her demeanor, compassion, and quality of care. An attribute of a great caregiver is the ability to anticipate a client’s needs. This requires attentiveness and keen observation. Kay is consistently pleasant, always prompt, and arrives smiling to every one of her shifts.

Individual caregivers provide care services differently depending on their work style, personality, demeanor, etc. But all caregivers share the common goal of helping the sick and elderly remain healthy while living in their own homes and communities. Homewatch CareGivers’ greatest assets is its caregivers. This month we salute Kay Goffa for her outstanding work and dedication to our clients.

Meet our Client of the Month!
We salute John, who served as a Marine in World War II, and thank him for his national service. He was a gunnery, and as a result lost his hearing. John is a widower who misses his sweet wife every day. He speaks lovingly of their years of marriage. Now, he enjoys spending time with his two daughters and his grandchildren. John also enjoys talking about our national history and politics. He is a proud supporter of Disabled American Veterans. Homewatch CareGivers (HWCG) has been providing care for him since February 2018. Our caregiver assists John with showering, dressing, getting him ready for the day, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and medication reminders. John has physical therapy exercises to do each day and Vicki assists him with the discipline it takes for consistency. Words of encouragement go a long way. Since John no longer drives, Vicki provides transportation for his doctor’s appointments and his regular visits to the VA office in Bonham, TX. Vicki provides care three days a week. Homewatch CareGivers provides care schedules that are flexible and according to the client’s needs. HWCG recently asked John some questions about his care …
1. Why do you like Homewatch CareGivers (HWCG)?
“Because they sent me Vicki. She takes good care of me.”
2. How has HWCG been helpful to you?
“Vicki helps me keep my home clean and does my laundry. She helps to keep me safe in the shower. She makes me cinnamon raisin bread, which I love. And she is helpful in taking me to my appointments.”
3. Would you please share a favorite memory you have with your caregiver?
“Vicki is intelligent; I like talking with her. One day I remember laughing so hard together. We have a good time!”
4. Is there anything else you would like to share?
“Vicki is a good driver, and she is helpful. When we arrive at the grocery store, she goes and gets the electric cart for me and brings it to the car so that I don’t have to walk so far.”
We are honored to provide the care John needs that meets his expectations. Homewatch CareGivers looks forward to helping him stay healthy and safe living independently at home for many years to come.
“Veterans know better than anyone else the price of freedom, for they’ve suffered the scars of war. We can offer them no better tribute than to protect what they have won for us.” ―President Ronald Reagan (in a 1983 radio address to the nation)

Homewatch Caregivers (HWCG) is proud to announce Ola Afolabi has been selected “Caregiver of the Month.” Caregiving is challenging and difficult work. They put a lot of skill and compassion into their work so elderly and sick clients stay healthy and happy. But … that doesn’t stop Ola from giving her best, day after day, to help our clients maintain the best quality of life. Ola assist our clients with their daily routines, activities, and needs. This may include food preparation, buying groceries, ordering medication, and ensuring patients take their medications on time, in the right way. She also plays a crucial role in the communication between the client’s doctor and family regarding the client’s health status and needs. While these responsibilities only skim the surface of what Ola does on a daily basis, her duties has a significant and direct impact on the day-to-day experience of our clients. Even under challenging times, Ola shines bright and demonstrates a sense of responsibility by going above and beyond. Most recently, Ola helped a young patient with her virtual learning studies while schools were closed due to the pandemic. Adding “teacher/mentor” to her list of duties is something Ola accomplished with a sense of pride and a smile. Another example of Ola’s exemplary care is when she was caring for an end-of-life patient. Ola would sing to the client while she was bathing her because it made the client relax and unwind. The simple pleasures in life. Details that Ola picks up on and is willing to do in order to bring peace into the souls of the people she cares for. Reliability and consistency are two key characteristics that is important in a caregiver. Ola aces these characteristics and has maintained longevity with her clients for years at a time. Every client she cares for adores her and considers her part of their family. We salute Ola for her outstanding work and dedication towards our clients and their families.

Meet our Client of the Month:
Linda is a beloved teacher in the Highland Park School District. She has her master’s degree in Speech and Drama and worked with students for almost 50 years in the Fine Arts program. They affectionately call her “Mama Drama.” Linda possesses two wonderful attributes: a passion for the arts, and an ability to communicate with young people in a lasting and inspirational way. She has touched the lives of so many students whom she holds dear to her heart. However, nothing compares to the love and pride she feels for her grandchildren. Homewatch CareGivers (HWCG) has been providing care for Linda since June 2020. Our caregivers assist her with transfers, dressing, grooming, and getting her ready for the day. They also assist with meal preparation, light housekeeping, and medication reminders. Linda has two caregivers that come on a consistent rotating schedule each week. Linda has Long Term Care Insurance which helps pay for her care; we file claims for her each week to lessen the load of dealing with any paperwork. We recently asked Linda some questions about her experience with Homewatch CareGivers.
1. Why do you like Homewatch CareGivers?
“I love that they take care of the things I need done.”
2. How has Homewatch CareGivers been helpful to you?
“The caregivers are attentive and trustworthy. The office is responsive. A person actually answers the phone when I call, and they are always helpful.”
3. We know you have used other caregiving companies in the past. Is there something that stands out when comparing Homewatch CareGivers to other companies?
“The caregivers are encouraging, and not pushy. The quality of personnel is much higher at Homewatch CareGivers. They are well trained and they provide stability.”
4. Would you please share a favorite memory you have with your caregiver?
“I was hosting a luncheon with friends and was planning on ordering in our food. Our caregiver offered to make lunch for everyone. She made a delicious Chinese meal. Everyone raved about it!”
5. Is there anything else you would like to share?
“Our caregivers are part of our family. When my grandkids come over, the caregivers give them big hugs. I am glad they are here with me.”
Homewatch CareGivers is honored to provide the care that Linda … and so many of our clients … need. Every client is unique, so the approach is not the same with any two clients. Homewatch CareGivers’ holistic approach looks at the total person; not only their condition. Our approach has helped many individuals stay healthy and safe living at home for many years.
