Happy National Watermelon Day! 🍉
There’s nothing quite like a juicy slice of watermelon on a hot summer day—but this fruit is more than just refreshing. With over 90% water content, it’s a delicious way to stay hydrated, especially in the summer heat. It’s also rich in vitamin C and A, which support immune function and skin health, and packed with antioxidants like lycopene that promote heart health and help reduce inflammation. Whether you’re blending it into smoothies, tossing it in a salad, or enjoying it fresh off the rind, watermelon is a sweet treat your body will thank you for! 💧❤️

✨”Does Sugar Feed Cancer?”✨

This is a question that I am frequently asked by patients facing many different types of cancer, and I have often seen these patients implementing extreme restrictions on their diet due to a fear that carbohydrates will fuel cancer cell growth. But what is the true relationship between carbohydrates and cancer?

I’ve teamed up with the again to talk about what the science shows and to separate fact from fiction regarding sugar and its impact on cancer growth. Please click the link in my bio or comment “SUGAR” below to access the article.

Last weekend I went on a little road trip down to Austin, and I just wanted to highlight a few of the amazing restaurants I went to that feature some healthy options on their menu✨

Photo 1: - this was the first time I have been to this restaurant because it is so hard to get a reservation, but it is well worth the wait!! This Mediterranean restaurant’s menu featured so many delicious options, but my favorite was definitely the Japanese sweet potato hummus with roasted poblano peppers (top left in photo) 😍

Photo 2: - I first fell in love with this restaurant several years ago when I went to one of their NYC locations, and I am so glad to now have one in my home state (and I just found out one is opening in Dallas just a few minutes away from me!!!). I almost always get their Brassicas Bowl because I love it so much, but this time I switched it up and tried the seasonal scramble (eggs, pesto, peas, mint, snap pea salad, and feta on a sour dough toast), and it was SOOO good!!

Photo 3: - I only recently heard about this spot in downtown Austin and was so excited to check it out. They advertise as being completely free of seed oils, gluten, dairy, soy, GMOs, and refined sugars, and everything was so great!! I tried the market fish ceviche, the local beet salad, and iced matcha latte (made with ceremonial grade matcha), and will definitely be going back in the future to try out more of their menu!

Photo 4: - this has long been one of my favorites! The Red Fish (served in a chili broth) is to die for! Be warned though - it is a bit spicy! I also love the shrimp or tofu spring rolls, which may be a better option this time of year when you are already sweating just from being in Austin, let alone from having spicy food lol!

Let me know if you have any other recs for me to try out the next time I am in Austin!

✨Healthy Travel Tips✨
Last weekend I had a wonderful time visiting my sister and brother in law in Pensacola, and I just wanted to share some healthy-tips for nutrition while traveling!

Tip #1: Enjoy the food where you are!! You do not have to eat 100% healthy all the time. Food is meant to be enjoyed, so don’t deprive yourself especially when you are in a place with food you don’t get to try very often. As long as your overall diet is nutrient dense, you are doing fantastic!

Tip #2: Think of healthy snacks that are also satisfying! I personally love to snack on fruit throughout the summer because I think it’s super refreshing on a hot day. We went to the store and picked up some berries and oranges to keep in our ice chest and paired it with some nuts for extra protein. We also found a great place right on the beach where we got açaí and blue spirulina bowls that were packed with nutrient dense ingredients.

Tip #3: When possible, make your own food. I love doing this when I am staying at an airbnb and have a kitchen, or like this past weekend when I was staying at my sister’s house. We made scrambled eggs with avocado toast on sourdough bread each morning, and I had a little bit of Greek yogurt on the side for extra protein. For lunch, we made smashed chickpea sandwiches loaded with lots of veggies (will post a recipe at some point lol) and brought these to the beach. Not only will preparing your own food allow you to be in control of what you are eating, but it will also save money!!

Tip #4: Find healthy options at the airport. Some airports are definitely better than others, but I have started seeing more and more of these vending machines which makes me so happy! The food is delicious and super healthy and a great option to eat before your flight or to take with you on the plane ✈️

Are you eating the rainbow? 🌈 One of the major health benefits of colorful fruits & veggies are their antioxidants, which help protect cells from damage & reduce the risk of developing cancer. Registered dietitian Annie Cavalier of My Healthful Life shares one of her favorite recipes—and its health benefits—with us:

"This is one of my favorite salads to make during the fall and winter, and it is super easy to make and full of nutrients! It contains arugula, roasted beets, walnuts, poached eggs, feta cheese, lemon juice, olive oil, and pepper. Let’s talk a little bit about one of these rockstar ingredients: walnuts…

Did you know that walnuts have the highest omega-3 fatty acid content of all tree nuts? Omega-3s are a type of polyunsaturated fats that are anti-inflammatory and great for brain and heart health. The type of omega-3 fatty acid that is in walnuts is called alpha-linolenic acid, which is also found in foods such as chia seeds, flax seeds, soy beans, h**p seeds, and more."
