Irene Okoronkwo’s (Oh-co-ron-kwo) Biography
Born in Austin TX but raised in New Orleans, Louisiana…Ms. In high school, she served as a volunteer at Tulane University Hospital in New Orleans, where she discovered the need to educate the community about healthcare. Okoronkwo graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and began her career at Methodist Hos
pital in Dallas, TX. While working at the Dallas County jail as a registered nurse, she earned her masters of science degree in Nursing with a major in Family Nurse Practitioner from Texas Woman’s University in Dallas, TX. Okoronkwo is pursing her Doctorate degree in Nursing with a special emphasis in psychiatric health at the University of Texas at Arlington and her expected graduation date is Fall 2015.Her research interest includes African American men with schizophrenia, and African American youth substance abusers
Ms. Okoronkwo is currently employed at the Dallas County Jail and Parkland Hospital as a Nurse Practitioner. She has worked at the Dallas Metro care (MMHR) outpatient clinic as a Nurse Practitioner. Okoronkwo has received several prestigious accolades including the 1st place winner for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She is single, a member of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church and resides in Dallas, TX.
